- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The ever-increasing development of information and communication technologies has created new opportunities in the domains of curriculum planning and teaching. In this study, an exercise therapy course was held using both lecture-based and virtual teaching methods. Then, the students’ opinions were investigated and their overall levels of satisfaction were measured. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among all physiotherapy students who had enrolled in the fourth semester of 2014 academic year and had selected the course of principles of exercise therapy. This study was conducted during one semester. We evaluated the effect of lecture-based and virtual (multimedia-based) methods of education according to the learning management system (LMS) among 20 students. A researcher-made questionnaire was designed regarding satisfaction with virtual versus lecture-based teaching methods; the questionnaire was scored based on a five-point Likert-type scale. Results: Of 20 students, one individual was single and 19 were married. Moreover, the mean test score was 12.38 ± 3.23 for the virtual teaching method, while it was 14.21 ± 1.88 for the lecture-based one, showing a significant difference (P = 0.03). Generally, 50% of the students preferred the virtual teaching method over the lecture-based one. In total, 75% of the students were satisfied or totally satisfied with the virtual teaching method for the exercise therapy course. Conclusions: In terms of scores, the lecture-based method was better than the virtual one. However, the level of student’s satisfaction in the virtual method was higher than the lecture-based one.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction : Nowadays, students of medical universities need to be familiar with computer and information technology (IT) to become successful. The aim of this study was to investigate the information literacy and the use of IT by students in Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. Methods : This survey is a descriptive-correlational study. The study population consisted of all students of the Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences and the sample size included 235 students. The instrument was a researcher-developed questionnaire with a validity confirmed by faculty members and a 0.83 reliability according to Cronbach’s alpha. For data analysis, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and Chi-square in SPSS 16 were used. Results : The results revealed the frequency use of IT domains; Internet obtained the most frequently used domain (67.2%) followed by Windows (54.1%), word processing software (43.8%), search engines (41.1%), and e-mail (30.5%). The highest mastery was obtained over Internet use (58.6%) followed by Windows and word processing software (48.3%), search engines (34.4%), and software installation (31.4%). The use of IT was significantly associated with previous research activities such as having PC, the skill to use computers and Internet, the mean duration of computer use per week, and English language competency (P < 0.05). Conclusions : The students’ mastery over the use of IT is weak in the Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, and certain plans are needed to educate these students by holding workshops, empowering them to do research, and revisiting the curricula to increase the credits of IT course.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting is an effective treatment for reducing symptoms and mortality in coronary artery patients.Although patients experience post sternotomy complications such as musculoskeletal disorders. So, the aim of this study was to compare the head, neck and upper trunk postures between patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting and healthy individuals.
Methods: In this cross-sectional case-control study, twenty-one men (56.38 ± 8.64 years) were randomly selected from among patients who had been referred to Al-Zahra Cardiac Rehabilitation Center in Shiraz and undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and the angles of forward head, thoracic kyphosis, and rounded shoulder were measured. Twenty healthy men (51.70 ± 10.40 years) were also evaluated and compared in terms of the above variables. This study was designed and conducted as a pilot. The angles of the forward head and rounded shoulder were assessed by placing reflective markers on the body and processing the images by Digimizer MedCalc software, version 4.6.1. Thoracic kyphosis angle was measured by a flexible ruler. The Persian version of the SF36 questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to verify the normal distribution of data. Independent sample t-test and Mann-Whitney test were used for between-group comparison for data with normal and non-normal distribution, respectively.
Results: The comparison of the forward head, rounded shoulder, and thoracic kyphosis angles showed no significant difference between post-surgical and healthy subjects (P> 0.05). Patients' quality of life was significantly different from that of the control group in all aspects, except for general and mental-emotional health (p <0.05).
Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the case and control groups in the angles of forward head, thoracic kyphosis, and rounded shoulder. Patients who underwent CABG, however, experienced a significant reduction in their quality of life compared to the control group. Therefore, it seems necessary to pay attention to patients and find solutions to manage and improve various aspects of life, such as physical and mental health.- انتشار مقاله: 29-10-1398

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Proprioceptive inputs from the cervical region play an important role in balance. In patients with tension-type headache (TTH), proprioception is altered. The effect of treatment for TTH on balance is unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of post-isometric relaxation (PIR) in the neck muscles on pain, disability and balance in patients with TTH.Methods: 30 patients with chronic TTH who had a trigger point and tenderness in the upper trapezius, sternocleidomastoid (SCM), suboccipitalor splenius muscles were enrolled in the study. The patients underwent PIR based on Liebenson’s method. Before and after treatment, balancewas evaluated with the Y balance test, time up and go test, functional reach test and single leg stance test. As clinical symptoms of TTH we considered the intensity and frequency of headaches,which were recorded along with neck disability index (NDI)assecondary outcomes. Paired t-tests were used to analyze the data.Results:The results of the Y balance test, time up and go test, functional reach test and single leg stance test changed significantly after treatment (P< 0.001). Significant differences were also found forall secondary variables (P < 0.001).Conclusions:The results of this study showed that the PIR technique for muscle relaxation in the upper trapezius, SCM, suboccipitalor splenius muscles may improve balance along with clinical symptoms such as pain and disabilityin patients with TTH.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Wushu is one of the martial arts that combines explosive strengthand speed movements with combat techniques. Most studies to date of wushurelatedinjuries have been published in Chinese languages. No published studieshave reported the prevalence of these injuries in Iran. Therefore, the aim of thepresent study was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries inmale wushu players in Shiraz.Methods: Male wushu athletes aged 18 to 30 years were included in this crosssectional study if they had been practicing for 2 hours per session, twice a weekduring the past 3 years. The athletes were recruited by convenience samplingfrom 30 wushu clubs in Shiraz, Iran. The sample size was 165. The study wasconducted from June to September 2016. Each participant was asked to completean information questionnaire about his musculoskeletal injuries related towushu during the previous year.Results: About two third (65.45%) of wushu players had one or more injuriesduring the previous year. Severe injuries were most commonly located in thehead/neck and knee/tibia areas, and inflammation was more prevalent than theother types of injuries.Conclusion: Wushu players in this study reported a high prevalence of injuriesaffecting different parts of the body.
