- چکیده انگلیسی: A 3-year-old pregnant Arabian mare was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz with a history of bleeding and rodenticide ingestion. The results of paraclinical examinations showed severe normocytic and normochromic anemia, decreased serum total protein, albumin, and fibrinogen concentrations, increased serum total bilirubin, urea, and creatinine concentrations, as well as increased serum aspartate aminotransferase and creatine kinase activity. Three days after treatment, all the clinical signs were resolved, however, fetus abortion occurred. In order to confirm the suspected cause of abortion and toxicosis, high-performance liquid chromatography was performed on serum sample of mare and liver tissue of the aborted fetus and toxicosis was confirmed. Poisoning with brodifacoum is considered as an important and lethal poisoning for both human being and animals.To our knowledge, this is the first report of spontaneous toxicosis and abortion with brodifacoum. Brodifacoum toxicosis can be effectively managed with early diagnosis, good paraclinical examinations and appropriate treatment.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Fertility is one of the most important parameters in breeder farms and cockerels play an outstanding role in fertility of eggs in broiler breeder units. Todays, supplementation of feed-additives such as organic selenium is used to increase fertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different levels of Nano-Selenium (Nano-Se) on expression of molecular markers of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) in testis of broiler breeder males. A total of 30 roosters of 40 weeks age were randomly divided into 5 groups. Groups were as follow: 1) control (normal diet), 2) diet supplemented with 0.3 mg/kg sodium Selenite, 3) diet supplemented with 0.15 mg/kg Nano-Se, 4) diet supplemented with 0.3 mg/kg Nano-Se and 5) diet supplemented with 0.6 mg/kg Nano-Se. At the end of experimental period, birds autopsied and samples from testis of all birds were taken. The samples were used to examine the β1-integrin (CD29), thy-1(CD90 and NANOG mRNA expression by quantitative Real-Time PCR. The results of this study showed that testis of the groups fed with diets supplemented with 0.6mg/kg and 0.15mg/kg of Nano-Se had the highest and lowest mRNA expression of SSCs markers, respectively. In conclusion, the present study indicated that Nano-Se had advantages to sodium Selenite and 0.6 mg/kg of Nano-Se supplemented in males' diet in broiler breeders farms may contributes to optimal fertility via increasing mRNA expression of SSCs markers of roosters' testis and could be used to delay reduction of fertility caused by aging in broiler breeder males.

- چکیده انگلیسی: The main objectives of this study were to determine the occurrence and potential causative factors of Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) in native cattle and water buffaloes from southwest of Iran. Fifty-three anemic animals (37 cattle and 16 buffaloes) were studied. A full clinical history and physical examinations were undertaken for all animals. Four clinically healthy cattle and four healthy buffaloes were also used as control animals. Blood samples were subjected to a complete blood count, Coombs’ test, erythrocyte osmotic fragility test and serum biochemical analysis. IMHA was diagnosed in 12 (32.43%) cattle and 6 (37.50%) buffaloes based on the Coombs’ test. Underlying or concurrent diseases, including theileriosis, anaplasmosis, vaccination, and pneumonia were detected in 11 cattle and four buffaloes. Primary or idiopathic IMHA was identified in one cattle and two buffaloes that their Coombs’ test was positive. Hematologic and biochemical findings in the cattle with IMHA included a nonregenerative anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, increased osmotic fragility, hyperbilirubinemia and elevated serum alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase activities. It can be concluded that IMHA occurs in a significant proportion of anemic cattle and river buffaloes in southwest of Iran. The occurrence of IMHA in both cattle and buffaloes is mostly secondary to infectious diseases especially theileriosis and anaplasmosis. Clarification of the mechanisms of primary or idiopathic and secondary IMHA in cattle and buffaloes require further studies.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Listeria monocytogenes can be found throughout the environment and in many foods. It is associated primarily with meat and animal products. Listeria monocytogenes has become increasingly important as a food-borne pathogen. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of microwave (MW) treatment of chicken meat samples which were inoculated with L. monocytogenes. Drumettes of broiler carcasses were soaked in fully growth of L. monocytogenes in Brain-Heart Infusion broth. The swab samples were taken from the inoculated samples, after various times of radiation (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 sec), using a domestic MW oven at full power. Following exposures, viable counts and surface temperaturemeasurements were performed. The bacterial counts were performed on Oxford agar. The results indicated that equal or longer than 60 sec exposures of chicken portions to MW heating which enhances the median surface temperature more than 74 ˚C could eliminate the superficial contamination of chicken meat with L. monocytogenes. Statistical analysis showed samples with equal or longer than 60 sec exposures to MW heating had significant decrease in population of inoculated bacteria compared with positive control group(p < 0.05). Pearson correlation showed a significant correlation between the bacterial population and temperature of samples due to MW exposure (p < 0.001, r = – 0.879 and r2 = 0.773).

- چکیده انگلیسی: Rabbitfish is economically valuable teleost species which lives in shallow coastal waters. Two species of rabbit fish have been recognized in southern sea of Iran (Persian gulf) as namely Siganus sutor and Siganus javus. In the current study, in order to investigate the histology of the annular ligament of the S. javus’ eye, the prepared sections of the eyes of twelve healthy specimens were studied under light microscope. The results revealed that annular ligament is a crescent shape structure which is situated between the scleral stroma anteriorly and the iris posteriorly. It contains a vascularized, amorphous and granular matrix with fibers of dense connective tissue; high glycogen content and melanin pigments.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Nitrite intoxication occurs frequently in ruminants and equines. The most common treatment of this disorder is administration of 1% methylene blue, although the use of some antioxidant agents e.g. vitamins and complementary treatment may also be useful. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antioxidative effects of some vitamins on methemoglobinemia induced by sodium nitrite. For this purpose the blood sample of a healthy dairy cattle was pre-incubated with three different concentrations (5, 10, 20 mmol L-1) of each vitamin (E, C, B1, A and a combination of vitamin E and vitamin C) as antioxidant agent at 4 °C for 24 hours. A control group with normal saline instead of vitamin was applied. Then, all samples were treated with sodium nitrite (10 mmol L-1) as an oxidant agent for 10 minutes and the level of methemoglobin formation was measured spectrophoto-metrically. The results revealed that the level of methemoglobin decreased significantly (P < 0.05), when vitamin E (10 and 20 mmol L-1) and vitamin C (5 mmol L-1) was applied to the tests, separately. Vitamin C at the concentration of 20 mmol L-1, was not effective, but it even increased methemoglobin formation significantly. Combination of vitamin E and C was significantly effective at concentration 5 mmol L-1, but not at concentration 10 and 20 mmol L-1. Vitamin A and vitamin B1 were not effective in any concentration. It was concluded that vitamins especially vitamin C and E can reduce oxidative effects which induced methemoglobin formation in vitro and could be used as an alternative medication.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The ultimate goal of the treatment of infectious knee arthritis is to protect the articular cartilage from
adverse effects of infection. Treatment, however, is not always hundred percent successful and has a 12% failure
rate. Persistent infection is more likely to happen in elderly patients and those with underlying joint diseases,
particularly osteoarthritis. Eradication of infection and restoration of function in the involved joint usually are
not possible by conventional treatment strategies. There are few case series reporting two-stage primary knee
arthroplasty as the salvage treatment of the septic degenerative knee joint; however, the treatment protocol remains
to be elucidated.
Methods: Based on a proposed approach, patients with failure of common interventions for treatment of septic knee
arthritis and underlying joint degeneration were treated by two-stage TKA and intervening antibiotic loaded static
cement spacer. Suppressive antibiotic therapy was not prescribed after the second stage.
Results: Complete infection eradication was achieved with mean follow up of 26 months. All cases were balanced with
primary total knee prosthesis. The knee scores and final range of motions were comparable to other studies.
Conclusion: The two-stage total knee replacement technique is a good option for management of failure of previous
surgical treatment in patients with septic arthritis and concomitant joint degeneration. Our proposed approach enabled
us to use primary prosthesis in all of our patients with no need for suppressive antibiotic therapy.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Understanding the microscopic dispersion and aggregation of nanoparticles at nanoscale media has become an important challenge during the last decades. Nanoscale modeling techniques are the important tools to tackle many of the complex problems faced by engineers and scientists. Making progress in the investigations at nanoscale whether experimentally or computationally has helped understand the physical phenomena at the molecular scale. In addition, important developments have been made in predicting behavior and transport characteristics of nanofluids. In this review, we will discuss on the progresses made on the demonstration of aggregation phenomena in nanofluids. Our main focus will be on the application of molecular modeling in the illustration of the effect of aggregation on the nano-rheology of nanofluids. By the review in the literature the new fields of studies are recommended for more consideration and investigation.

In the present study, we investigated the role of ISCOMATRIX charge in induction of a Th1 type of immune response and protection against Leishmania major infection in BALB/c mice.
Materials and Methods:
Positively and negatively charged ISCOMATRIX were prepared. BALB/C mice were immunized subcutaneously, three times with 2-week intervals, with different ISCOMATRIX formulations. Soluble Leishmania antigens (SLA) were mixed with ISCOMATRIX right before injection. The extent of protection and type of immune response were studied in different groups of mice.
Results:
The group of mice immunized with negatively charged ISCOMATRIX showed smaller footpad swelling upon challenge with L. major and the highest IgG2a production compared with positively charged one. The mice immunized with positively charged ISCOMATRIX showed the lowest splenic parasite burden compared to the other groups. Cytokine assay results indicated that the highest level of IFN- γ and IL-4 secretion was observed in the splenocytes of mice immunized with negatively charged ISCOMATRIX as compared to other groups.
Conclusion:
