- چکیده انگلیسی: Context Men entering the nursing profession have been investigated from several different perspectives. Due to male gender characteristics and existing public image, nursing is often not considered as a career choice by men. Whether nursing would benefit from increased number of men is a key question in the literature. The purpose of this integrative review of the literature was to identify factors influencing men to enter the nursing profession. In addition, it sought to understand the challenges they are confronted within this profession. Evidence Acquisition A systematic search of the existing literature was performed using an Internet search with broad keywords to access related articles in both Persian and English databases. Finally, 34 studies (written between 2000 and early 2013) were selected and surveyed. Results Most of the studies were conducted in developed counties. The review identified reasons why males choose nursing, and other challenges facing men entering and working in nursing. Themes that emerged from the literature include educational and societal barriers experienced by men in nursing, recruitment, career choice, and role strain. Conclusions Regarding men’s influences on professional development, and also the importance of gender-based caring, policies for recruitment and retention of men in nursing must be followed hastily. However, there is a need for further research regarding the challenges faced by men entering nursing, in both Iran and other developing countries.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background Transferring research-based knowledge into practice would help to maximize the quality of health care. However, the role of knowledge producers and the organizational roles related to knowledge transfer have been largely ignored. Objectives This study was accomplished with the aim of describing the organizational activities needed to transfer the findings of nursing research from the viewpoint of nurse educators in Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences. Patients and Methods This descriptive study was carried out with participating 279 nurse educators of medical sciences universities. Data were collected using Knowledge Translation Self-Assessment Tool for Research Institutes (SATORI). Results Nursing faculty members evaluated the organizational activities of transferring the knowledge of nursing research at the “medium” level and for the domains of “the question of research” and “promoting the use of evidence” at a “weak” level and in the domains of “knowledge production” and “knowledge transfer” at a “medium” level. Conclusions Organizational activities related to the knowledge transfer of nursing research are demonstrably low (medium at best). It is recommended that in each faculty and with the participation of all faculty members, the research transferring procedure should be assessed and all necessary changes needed to improve the research transferring procedure should be implemented.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background Methods learnt by children to cope with stress will be used in their adolescence. Failure to learn adaptive coping strategies causes some mental, physical and behavioral problems which continue until adulthood. Objectives The current study was conducted to investigate the methods of coping with stress among Iranian school-age children. Patients and Methods A descriptive study was conducted in which a randomly selected sample of 839 students of third to fifth grade of primary school in Tabriz, Iran participated. The data were collected using the Schoolagers` Coping Strategies Inventory questionnaire. SPSS software was employed to analyze the data by percentage, absolute frequency, and linear regression test. Results All coping methods inserted in the questionnaire were used by students. More than 70% of students mentioned “pray”, “say I’m sorry or tell the truth”, and “try to relax, stay calm” out of 26 cases of coping strategies. According to more than 60% of children, “pray”, “say I’m sorry or tell the truth”, and “draw, write, or read something” were the most useful coping methods and “pick on someone” and “yell or scream” were not mostly used by the children under study. Conclusions Children use variable methods to cope with their stress. Therefore, parents, health trainers and school authorities should distinguish non-adaptive methods of children and teach them the adaptive coping strategies.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background In today’s complex healthcare environments, the traditional teaching strategies and learning models are unable to prepare learners to confront with rapid changes. Some education scholars believe that the teaching strategies based on socioculturally theory are more responsible and efficient. Objectives The present study was conducted to investigate socio-culturally-based teaching strategies being adopted or assigned by Iranian clinical nurse educators as high priorities. Patients and Methods A descriptive study was conducted on 38 nurse educators from two nursing and midwifery faculties in Tabriz and Urmia, Iran. Data were collected over a period of 2 months in 2010 using the Phillip’s Adoption Appraisal Instrument, developed by Bonk & Kim. The instrument items have been ranked on a 4-point Likert-type scale and ordered in 10 subscales. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 13.0. The overall mean, standard deviation, and confidence interval 95% were calculated for each subscale to determine the rank distribution of subscales. Results All strategies were known as a moderate adoption (2.72 ± 0.44 of 4), however prioritizing in adoption of socio-culturally-based teaching strategies from clinical nurse educators’ viewpoints indicated that 60% of strategies were evaluated as the most adopted strategies, 10% as the least, and the other 30% in moderate mode. Conclusions Due to the importance of socio-culturally-based theory strategies in clinical settings and the moderate adoption of strategies from clinical nurse educators’ viewpoints,educational planners and policymakers should prepare required prepositions to progress the adoption and the usage of these strategies.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Due to the high clinical challenges, differences in coping strategies, and high workload in nurses, there is a need to develop strategies to keep them in the profession. The aim of the present study was to explore the Iranian nurses’ coping strategies to deal with intention to leave.Methods: A qualitative content analysis was used to obtain rich data. We performed 13 in-depth face-to-face semi-structured interviews with nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Tabriz and Urmia Universities of Medical Sciences in Iran, selected through purposive sampling. Constant comparative method was used for data analysis.Results: Three categories and eleven subcategories emerged during data analysis. The extracted categories and sub-categories consisted of (I) Self-empowerment (practical knowledge increase, responsibility, finding identification of the nurse, balancing work and life, seek support and humanitarian interests), (II) Self-controlling (tolerance, avoidance, the routine-based performance), and (III) Pursuing opportunities for advancement and promotion (community development, planning for higher education).Conclusion: Nurses make attempts to individually manage problems and stressors perceived from bedside that have led them to leave the bedside; these efforts have been effective in some cases but sometimes they are ineffective due to discontinuous training and relative competence in terms of how to manage and deal with problems. It is suggested that nurses should learn strategies scientifically to meet the challenges of bedside. Through enabling and supporting behaviors and creating opportunities for growth and professional development, nursery managers can help nurses to stay and achieve improvement of the quality of cares.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Infant's transition is a challenge for parents and the health system that requires ongoing assessment and management to improve each newborn`s growth and development. The purpose of this study was to explore the management of infant` transition from neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home.
Materials and Methods: We used a grounded theory study to explore and describe the management of infants’ transition from the NICU to the home. Interviews were conducted with 31 professionals and 20 family members, and participant observations were made in hospitals, clinics, and one physician office. MAXQDA was utilized for coding and categorizing data.
Results: The theory illustrated six phenomena: An unexpected separation; A crisis situation; Mother-infant rebonding; Protection of the infant’s health; Promotion of growth and development; and Inadequate management causing disability. Together, these formed a three-phase process consisting of: A threat to the infant's life, Efforts to save the infant's life, and Continuation of life.
Conclusion: Development of the theory of infants transition provides a three phases process ( A threat to the infant’s life, Efforts to save the infant’s life, and Continuation of life), that can yield guidelines to manage the infant` transition in prevent mother–infant separation, support parents in their role as primary caregivers, and follow up with individual home visits by nurses.- انتشار مقاله: 25-08-1395

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: One of the essential aspects of the provision of care is cultural issues. Cultural sensitivity is the key for cultural care. The aim of this study was to explore culturally sensitive care in pediatric nursing care in Iran.
Materials and Methods: This study was a conventional content analysis. Participants were consisted of 25 nurses and 9 parents selected through purposive sampling from three pediatric referral centers in Tabriz and Tehran, Iran. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and field notes and were concurrently analyzed by using Graneheim and Lundman (2004) method. Data was transcribed verbatim, words, sentences, and phrases were considered meaning units, abstracted, labeled and compared for developing categories.
Results: Culturally sensitive care of a sick child was consisted of three themes: ‘cultural exposure’, ‘intercultural communication’ and ‘the reconciliation of cultural conflict in families/care’. During the ‘cultural exposure’ nurses were informed of the cultural manifestations, strived to identify and understand patients/families with cultural diversities and respect their cultural beliefs. The nurse used the native language in ‘intercultural communication’ or a combination of verbal and nonverbal communication methods to reach a common understanding. Finally, a nurse in the conflict between the culture of child/family and care took actions for making decisions to develop a compliance between care and the family culture and amended parents’ harmful desires through negotiation and appropriate care.
Conclusion: Understanding the concept of culturally sensitive care, can help with resolving the problems of cultural exchanges in Pediatric wards. Providing cultural facilities and interpreters to communicate with patients/family increase their satisfaction.- انتشار مقاله: 18-09-1395

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and aims: Aromatherapy means application of concentrated essences from different types of plants (such as flowers) for treatment of different types of diseases. Aromatherapy works for stress, anxiety, psychosomatic problems, muscular and rheumatic pains, gastrointestinal problems, menopause and postpartum depression. The present study aimed to study the effect of aromatherapy on anxiety and pain in patients undergoing cholecystectomy. Methods: This is a single-blinded clinical trial study which was conducted with participation of 60 patients undergoing cholecystectomy in Sina Treatment Center, Tabriz, Iran in 2012-2013. The patients were randomly assigned using table of random numbers. In intervention group, the patients inhaled 10 drops of rose water with 12% concentration for three minutes 8 and 16 hours after surgery. For control group, routine care continued in the ward. The data were analyzed by SPSS using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey’s test). Results: Comparison of changes in pain and anxiety scores between the two group indicated that the developed changes in pain and anxiety level (mean relief of pain and anxiety 8 and 16 hours after surgery) in the aromatherapy group was significantly different from the control group (P<0.001) and the level of relief of pain and anxiety was higher in aromatherapy group than the control group 8 and 16 hours after surgery (P<0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicated the positive effect of rose water-mediated aromatherapy on relief of pain and anxiety in patients 8 and 16 hours after surgery. Aromatherapy could be used as a cheap, noninvasive, complication-free, and non-pharmacologic nursing care.
