- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Dental students’ attendance in community fields prepares them to get involved in oral health promotion programs. The aim of this study was to evaluate dental students` attitude toward education in community dentistry fields at an Iranian dental school.
Methods: 125 dental students participated in a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included questions regarding students’ background specifications, their motives for entering dental school, students’ opinion about the amount of acquired competency, and their attitude about educational experience in the community dentistry fields.
Results:More than two-thirds of the students (78%) assessed educational experience of community dentistry fields as positive. Students’ main motive for entering dentistry school was acquisition of social prestige. About 80% of the students described their acquired competency as average and high. Students with higher social attitude scores and those who reported more acquired competency were more probable to evaluate their attendance in community dentistry fields as positive (p-value=0.04 and 0.01 respectively).
Conclusion: students with higher socially conscious attitude and those who reported more acquired competency expressed their community dentistry field's education experience as more positive.- انتشار مقاله: 21-12-1391

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: The school-based oral health programs are an opportunity to inspire positive attitudes and proper oral health behavior in students. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two oral health education methods on the oral health of boarding high school students in Fariman, Iran. Methods: In this interventional study, 345 students were randomly divided into three groups, namely self-led (control), teacher-led (instructed by teachers), and peer-led (instructed by students). All students were subjected to Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S), Gingival Index (GI), Plaque Index (PI) measurements before and three months after the intervention. The data were analyzed using the paired
t-test, the Kruskal-Wallis, and the Chi-square tests. The P-value less than 0.05 was considered to be significant. Results: The results of the study showed a significant decrease regarding the scores of all three indices (P<0.001) in the peer-led group, compared to the self-led intervention. According to the paired sample t-test analyses following the intervention, there was a significant decrease in the mean OHI-S , GI, and PI in all three groups (P<0.001), peer-led group (P<0.001), and peer-led and self-led groups (P<0.001), respectively.
Conclusion: Due to the significant decline in all three indices of the peer-led group compared to the other two groups, using talented students as “oral and dental health assistants” may be an effective approach for promotion of oral and dental hygiene among teenagers. However, there is aneed to conduct more research in this field of study.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess the level of primary Knowledge among school staffs in Iran with regards to the immediate management of dental trauma. Methods: The data, from 160 participants, were collected using questionnaire, which surveyed staff’s background, attitude and knowledge of dental trauma management.
Results: The total number of school staff who responded to all of the questions in the questionnaire was 138; the response rate was 86%. 91.3% of the participants had more than 10 years of teaching experience. Only 24 cases (17.4%) have participated in training courses in regards to the dental trauma. 46.4% of the participants estimated their level of knowledge regarding the dental trauma as moderate and 42.8% as low and 7.2% without knowledge, however, 56.5% of them were highly interested in attending the training courses. Overall, the teachers’ knowledge on emergency management of the dental trauma cases presented in this study was deficient, especially in avulsed tooth management. Chi-square test showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the responses to the knowledge part of the questionnaire on age, gender, teaching experience and responsibility in school. Conclusion: The present report indicated the lack of knowledge among school staff on dental injuries managements. Organizing educational courses to improve the knowledge and awareness of school staff, as the first encounters of dental trauma in schools, seems necessary.

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Dental turbine chamber is a suitable reservoir for living microorganisms, so chamber sterilization is necessary for reducing cross contamination risk. On the other hand, in non-vacuum autoclaves, steam penetration into turbine chamber is doubtful, while they are still in use in dental clinics. In this study, performance of small non-vacuum autoclave in turbine chamber sterilization was evaluated. Methods: A total of 48 dental turbines were sterilized by large vacuum autoclaves. The turbin chamber cap was opened in aseptic enviroment and a strip contaminated with bacillus stearothermophilus endospores was placed into chamber and chamber cap was closed. Twelve dental turbines were loaded in each of four autoclaves (2 large pre-vacuum autoclaves, 2 bench top non-vacuum autoclaves) and sterilization process preformed according to the manufacturer's instructions. After the sterilization cycle, the strips were transferred to culture medium and incubated at 56°C for 48 Hours. As control sample, a biologic indicator that had not been autoclaved was used for each group. Results: Being loaded in different autoclaves, All 48 turbines were sterilized properly and all the cultures were negative. The culture results of four control indicators which were not sterilized, were positive. Conclusion: There was no difference between performance of vacuum and non-vacuum autoclaves in dental turbine chamber sterilization. Both types performed sterilization properly

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: In restorative dentistry, selecting the proper material is an important factor for clinical success. The objective of this study was clinical evaluation of survival time of three tooth color materials in primary anterior teeth. Methods: In this interventional clinical trial study, 94 deciduous anterior teeth (36 teeth in boys, 58 teeth in girls) belonging to 3-5 year old children in Pediatric Department of Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry, Iran were selected. Selective dental materials included compoglass, glass-ionomer Fuji II LC, and composite resin. The data were analyzed with Kaplan–Meyer and Log rank test. Results: compoglass had the highest survival time in comparison with composite and glass-ionomer. Nine months retention rate for teeth restored with compoglass, composite resin and glass-ionomer were estimated: 95%, 21%, and 12.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Compoglass can be a suitable material for anterior primary teeth restoration
