- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Tuberculosis has been detected in some extra pulmonary ecological niches. Although extra pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is less frequent than Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB), its incidence has increased worldwide. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of EPTB and MDR-EXPT in Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks among different samples in Kermanshah, Iran. Methods: Among all the suspected tuberculosis cases referred to the pathology laboratories, 116 patients were included based on the diagnosis of the infectious disease specialist. DNA were extracted from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks using genomics extraction G-spin Total DNA Extraction kit and the presence of EPTB was examined by TB Resistant Modual Isoniazid, Rifampicin kit. Results: The frequency of EPTB in the paraffin-embedded block samples was 32% (37 cases), and lymph nodes had the highest frequency (44.5%) followed by Pleural fluid, breast and CSF with the frequencies of 34.6%, 33% and 27% respectively. Conclusions: In the present study we found a high and increasing frequency of EPTB in paraffin- embedded blocks of the participants and it is one of the highest frequencies reported around the world. Since EPTB cases constitute a large number of TB burden, serious attention of public health organizations is recommended.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and Objectives: Uterine smooth muscle tumors are the most common human neoplasm .They are divided clinically as benign and malignant but there is another group of lesions which is difficult to place in these two categories ,so-called smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) and differentiation of these tumors on the basis of H&E staining is impossible . The goal of this study was finding of distinguishing objective biomarkers and a survey of proliferation markers comparing these three groups of tumors. Materials & Methods: Twenty one cases in each group of above mentioned tumors were selected randomly (63cases in total ) from Pathobiology laboratories and studied by using immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining for Ki_67 expression and special Argyrophilic Nucleolar Organizing Regions (AgNOR) staining method. Results : Ki_67 was expressed in 63.15% of leiomyosarcomas (LMS), 4.76% of STUMPs and 0% of leiomyoma group. Ki_67 expression between LMS and STUMP ,and also between LMS and leiomyoma were significantly different(P<0.0001).Mean AgNOR dots were2.55±0.03, 2.55, 0.66,4.04, and 8.12 ±0.13 in leiomyoma, STUMP and leiomyosarcoma,respectively. Significant differences between the three groups were observed (P<0.0001). Conclusion: AgNOR and Ki_67(MIB1) proliferation markers expression between LMS and STUMP were significantly different. Due to difficulty in differentiation LMS from STUMP, finding objective biomarkers is useful and practical. For this purpose, the present study recommend, Ki_67 and AgNOR staining which is a reliable, simple and rapid method.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) appears as a single lesion at birth or early infancy in an equal sex ratio. A rare aggressive vascular proliferation has been recognized as a separate entity from other childhood vascular neoplasm. A 3-year-old Iranian boy with a rapidly enlarging mass in his (posterior aspect of skull at the midline) skull was present here. Physical examination revealed a dark-red, firm mass measuring 5 × 4.5 cm in the posterior aspect of skull. No association with Kasabach- Merritt syndrome (KMS) was observed despite its size. Histologically, KHE was composed of infiltrating nodules with slitlike or crescentic vessels that are poorly canalized and lined by spindled endothelium cells. Immunohistochemically, both spindle and epithelioid cells were immunoreactive for CD34 and CD31, while negative for EMA, cytokeratin or S100 protein. α- SMA were detected in pericytes surrounding spindle cells. Recurrence occurred 2 month after first operation. Wide resection was performed at second operation and the patient was still alive during the 1-year follow- up period.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): Gentamicin is used for the treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infections. However, gentamicin administration is limited because of nephrotoxicity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effect of crocin against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: Thirty two male Wistar rats received gentamicin (100 mg/kg, IP), with or without crocin (100 mg/kg, IP) for seven consecutive days. Plasma creatinine and urea-nitrogen concentrations, oxidative stress and histopathological changes of kidney tissues were monitored. Results: Administration of gentamicin resulted in significant increases in plasma creatinine and urea-nitrogen concentrations and renal tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) level, and a decrease in the renal tissue ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) level. Crocin decreased plasma creatinine and urea-nitrogen concentrations and tissue MDA level, but increased the level of tissue FRAP. In addition, gentamicin led to cellular damages including glomerular atrophy, cellular desquamation, tubular necrosis and fibrosis, epithelial oedema of proximal tubules, perivascular edema, vascular congestion and intra-tubular proteinaceous casts, all of which were partially recovered by crocin. Conclusion: Crocin has protective effects against functional disturbances, oxidative stress and tissue damages induced by gentamicin.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The expression of HER-2neu and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with osteosarcoma may determine the response to treatment. These two factors are likely to be effective in cancer progression. This study aimed at investigating the prevalence of these two factors in the pathological samples. Methods: Pathological samples of patients with osteosarcoma collected at a cancer surgery center between 2017 and 2018 were evaluated, of which 37 samples were included. The samples were evaluated using the IHC technique by two pathologists. Results: 12 women and 25 men with an average age of 26.7 years were studied. 21 patients (56.8%) developed metastases from the beginning or during follow-up, whereas 16 patients (43.2%) have not yet developed metastases. Regarding HER-2neu, 21 patients (56.8%) scored 0, 9 patients (24.3%) scored 1, 3 patients (8.1%) scored +2, and 4 patients (10.8%) scored +3. The VEGF intensity scores of 0, 1+, 2+, +3, +4 and were found in 7 (18.9%), 2 (5.4%), 18 (48.6%), 8 (21.6%), and 2 (5.4%) patients, respectively. The results of the study did not show a significant relationship between age, gender, metastasis, and positive expression rates of HER-2neu and VEGF. Conclusion: The high expression of VEGF (75.7%) in the studied samples should be considered and further studies on this biomarker in cases with osteosarcoma are recommended from different aspects. To achieve validated results and prove the results of this study, similar studies with a larger sample size should be performed, and using targeted therapy for angiogenesis in large scale trials should be considered.
