- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies all over the world. The rate of survival of the patients with cancer has increased due to developing diverse treatment methods, as a result of which the treatment-related side effects have become the focus of attention more than before. Lymphedema related to breast cancer is one of the frequent side effects which has significantly affected the patient’s quality of life. Objectives: The purpose of this research was to assess the effect of complete or complex decongestive therapy on breast cancer-related lymphedema and the patients’ quality of life. Patients and Methods: The present study was conducted from January 2013 to January 2014 and comprised 119 patients with breast cancer, related lymphedema, who had undergone complete or complex decongestive therapy (CDT). The patients’ volume and grade of lymphedema were measured and determined before and after treatment, using the direct volumeter device to measure the lymphedema volume. To determine the quality of life, the European organization for research and treatment of cancer quality of life questionnaire (EQRTC BR-23) was completed before and after the treatment. Result: The volume of lymphedema was significantly reduced after CDT (P < 0.001). The scores of quality of life were significantly increased regarding body image (BI) (P < 0.001), future prospective (FP) (P = 0.008), sexual functioning (SF) (P = 0.006), systemic therapy side effect (STSE) (P = 0.008) and arm symptoms (AS) (P < 0.001) which was clear indication of improved quality of life. Conclusions: It is concluded that not only CDT causes reduction in lymph edema volume but also it improves the life quality of patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Medullary breast carcinoma (MBC) is a unique histological subtype of breast cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the classic and non-classic characteristics of MBC and its differences with IDC. The present review study incorporates 22 years of practical experience from a breast disease research center-based series of cases. Methods: Retrospectively, the medical records of 3,246 patients were reviewed in the Breast Disease Research Center, Shiraz University of Medical Science (Shiraz, Iran), from December 1993 to December 2015. The tumor size, lymph node metastasis, pathologic stage, nuclear and histological grade, hormonal receptor status, recurrence, disease-free, and overall survival were reviewed. Differences between medullary breast carcinoma and invasive ductal carcinoma were analyzed statistically using the Chi-square, Fischer, independent-sample t test, and Kaplan-Meier analysis (SPSS version 19.0). - چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The traditional methods of studying the gene-environment interactions need a control group. However, the selection of an appropriate control group has been associated with problems. Therefore, new methods, such as case-only design, have been created to study such interactions. The objective of this study was to compare the case-only and case-control designs using data from patients with breast cancer.
Methods: The interaction of genetic and environmental factor as well as the ratio of control to population odds ratio was calculated for case-only (300 patients with breast cancer) and case-control (300 cases of breast cancer and 300 matched controls) designs.
Results: The confidence intervals and -2log likelihood in all variables in case-only design was smaller than those in the matched case-control design. In case-only design, the standard errors of some variables such as age at menarche, the first delivery at the age of 35 yrs and more or no delivery, the history of having live birth, use of oral contraception pills, breastfeeding history were less than those in the matched case-control design.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the case-only design is an efficient method to investigate the interaction of genetic and environmental factors.- انتشار مقاله: 11-09-1392

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective: Cancer is a stressful event in life, and the dreadful impact and problems created for patients and families
by cancer negatively affect their quality of life. Therefore, regarding the increasing number of cancer patients and the
nature of this disease, the need to recognize and understand the priorities and problems of patients after the diagnosis of
cancer is of high importance. This study was designed and implemented with the aim of identifying the perceived
priorities of women with breast cancer. Methods: This study is a qualitative research of content analysis type. To collect
data, purposeful sampling and deep semi-structured individual interviews were used. The subjects were women with
breast cancer who visited the Breast Disease Research Center of Shahid Motahari Clinic in Shiraz, and the data were
saturated after 15 interviews. The four criteria presented by Lincken and Guba were used to evaluate the validity and
reliability. To analyze the qualitative data, conventional qualitative data analysis and MAXQDA10 software were used.
Two themes were obtained in the assessment of interviews and analysis of data: 1) Supportive relief; 2) Therapeutic
support. Results: Some of the participants highlighted the role of social and family support in coping with the disease,
and considered social communication and continued support in the form of empathic relationship as a turning point
in their lives. The absence of a fertility specialist in the cancer treatment system was the main complaint of most
participants. The results showed that receiving support from family and the healthcare system is the most important
perceived priorities in breast cancer patients. Conclusion: The results of this study show the importance of social support
as a perceived priority in breast cancer patients to improve their quality of life. Development and reinforcement of the
supportive network seem to be essential to provide the best possible help to these patients.- انتشار مقاله: 27-05-1397
