- چکیده انگلیسی: The antioxidant activities and reducing power capabilities of Veronica crista-galli and Veronica persica were evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging assay, total antioxidant activity and MTT assay at incubation times of 24, 48 and 72 hours. A water fraction of methanolic extract of V. crista-galli with the highest amount of total flavonoid (16.19 ± 0.001 mg of QE/g of dried plant) demonstrated stronger antioxidant effect than V. persica extract with the highest content of phenolic compounds (60.75 ± 0.0013 mg GAE/g of dried plant). The IC50 values of V. persica and V. crista-galli extracts were found to be 153.7 and 79.64 μg/mL, respectively. V. crista-galli possessed considerable inhibitory effect at lower concentrations on MCF-7 and Hela cell lines by increasing incubation time. There was no cytotoxic effect observed in the normal HDF cell line. This study recommends that the water fraction of the methanolic extracts of V. persica and V. crista-galli with in vitro antioxidant and selective anti-proliferative activities can support the popular uses of Veronica species in traditional medicine as effective natural remedies.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Halophilic and halotolerant microorganisms are good candidates for decolorization of azo dyes
which are routinely used in the dyeing process in textile industries. In this paper, the
optimization of biological decolorization of synthetic dye solutions containing Remazol Black B
by the previously isolated halophilic bacterium Halomonas sp. D2 is investigated. In a primary
investigation using a one-factor–at-a-time method, temperature, initial pH of the solution, and
concentrations of glucose, yeast extract, and sodium chloride were chosen for optimizing dye
removal using the Taguchi method. Based on the statistical analysis of the results, the most
significant parameter by far was the yeast extract concentration which accounted for 72.67% of
the total effect, followed by pH (11.84%) and the NaCl concentration (8.90%). The optimized
conditions for dye removal were predicted to be a temperature of 35°C, an initial pH of 10,
glucose concentration of 1% (w/v), yeast extract concentration of 1% (w/v), and sodium
chloride of 10% (w/v). Under these conditions, 95% decolorization was achieved in confirming

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a common problem among couples, and acquired thrombophilia is the well-known etiology of RPL. The aim of this study was to establish the association between inherited thrombophilic gene polymorphisms and RPL.
Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 50 women with unexplained RPL and 50 parous women with no history of miscarriage (age range: 17–48 years). The data were collected during 2013–2015 in Sarem Hospital, Tehran, Iran. Genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) for glycoprotein IIIa (PLA1/PLA2), KDR (Q472H), and β-fibrinogen (-455G/A); tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS)-PCR for glycoprotein Ia (807c/t) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (2578c/a), and ins/del PCR for angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) (intron 16 I/D). The association between the frequency of the genotypes and RPL was determined by Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests.
Results: The results of the present study revealed a significant relationship between glycoprotein Ia (807C/T), VEGF (2578C/A), and ACE (intron 16 I/D) polymorphisms and RPL (P=0.00, 0.02, and 0.00, respectively). In contrast, no relationship was observed between β-fibrinogen (-455G/A), KDR (Q472H), and glycoprotein IIIa (PLA1/PLA2) polymorphisms and increased risk of RPL (P>0.05).
Conclusion: This study demonstrated that glycoprotein Ia (807C/T), VEGF (2578C/A), and ACE (intron 16 I/D) polymorphisms may be a risk factor for the women with a history of RPL.
