- چکیده انگلیسی: BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study is conducted aiming to assess and compare the salivary levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in active and passive smokers to determine the correlation between environmental tobacco smoke and health condition.
METHODS: This study evaluated 75 healthy individuals including 25 active smokers, 25 passive smokers, and 25 non-smokers with an equal percentage of males and females. Unstimulated saliva samples were collected from all participants. The salivary level of cotinine was first measured for correct allocation of participants to the aforementioned three groups using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. The salivary levels of MDA and LDH were then measured.
RESULTS: The salivary level of cotinine was 19.1, 8.12, and 3.36 nmol/ml in active smokers, passive smokers, and non-smokers, respectively. The salivary level of MDA was 4.78, 2.67, and 2.63 nmol/ml while the salivary level of LDH was 508.33, 364.98, and 271.63 nmol/ml in active smokers, passive smokers, and non-smokers, in the order given.
CONCLUSION: Acceding to the results, the salivary levels of cotinine, MDA, and LDH had significant correlations with cigarette smoking. The salivary levels of MDA and LDH were significantly higher in active smokers than passive smokers, and also the values in passive smokers were higher than the corresponding values in non-smokers (P < 0.05).- انتشار مقاله: 22-04-1399

- چکیده انگلیسی: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant tumor that induces formation of osteoid or immature bone and rarely occurs in maxilla. Maxillofacial OSs are reported to occur in the third to fifth decades that is 1-2 decades later than the mean age for OS of long bones. The present case is a 62-year-old man with facial asymmetry and pain in his left upper jaw. Intraoral examination showed a bony hard, tender swelling about 50 x 60 mm in diameter in the maxillary alveolar ridge extending unilaterally from the maxillary incisor to the molar region which had expanded the buccal and palatal aspects of alveolar ridge. Computed tomography showed a hyper dense mass in the left maxilla extending to maxillary sinus. The diagnosis of OS was confirmed by histopathologic evaluation. Following the initial surgery, a local recurrence developed in the facial region of the patient within 18 months. Radiographic evaluation of OS of maxilla is important for diagnosis. Early diagnosis and radical surgery are the keys to increasing survival rate.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Herein, we studied interactions between the Li neutral atom and Li+ ion and three types of nanoparticles including sumanene (Sum), corannulene (Cor), and nanosheet to obtain the cell voltage (V) for Li−ion batteries (LIBs). Total energies, geometry optimizations, Frontier Molecular Orbital (FMO), and Density of States (DOS) analyses have been obtained using M06−2X level of theory and 6−31+G (d,p) basis set. DFT calculations clarified that the changes of energy adsorption between Li+ ion and nanoparticles, Ead,are in the order: Sheet > Sum−I > Cor > Cor−I > Sum. However, the Vcell for Sum is the highest. The changes in Vcell of Li−ion batteries (LIBs) are in the order: Sum > Sheet > Sum−i > Cor > Cor−i.This study theoretically indicates the possibility of Li as the anode in the battery field.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this work, TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite with high photocatalytic activity was successfully synthesized and characterized by various analyses such as XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX and DRS. The photocatalytic activity was tested vs. removal of methyl red as ananionic dye under black light radiation. Based on the results, TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite could effectively remove methyl red, and demonstrate an excellent photocatalytic enhancement over TiO2 and TiO2-graphene samples. The degradation reaction fit well to a Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model implying that the reaction rate is depended on the initial adsorption step. An artificial neural network (ANN) comprising four input variables (TiO2-graphene/chitosan dosage, initial dye concentration, reaction time and temperature of the solution), eight neurons and an output variable (Removal efficiency %) was optimized, tested and validated for methyl red degradation by the prepared TiO2-graphene/chitosan nanocomposite. The results showed that the predicted data from the designed ANN model are in good agreement with the experimental data with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9831. Based on the results, reaction time is the most influential variable and the temperature of solution is the less influential parameter in the removal efficiency of methyl red.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this research work, TiO2-SiO2/alginate nanocomposite with high surface area has been prepared and applied as adsorbent for the removal of azo dye methyl orange from aqueous solutions. Characteristics of phases and crystallite size of TiO2-SiO2/alginate nanocomposite were obtained from XRD and the surface area and pore size distribution were achieved from BET and BJH analysis methods. TiO2-SiO2/alginate nanocomposite with pure anatase phase, the average crystallite size of 8.3 nm, has specific surface area of 188.4 m2/g–1. To find the nature of adsorption procedure, the equilibrium adsorption isotherms were investigated. The linear correlation coefficients of Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms were obtained. Based on results, Langmuir isotherm model fitted the experimental data better than the other models. According to the Langmuir isotherm model, the maximum adsorption capacity of TiO2-SiO2/alginate nanocomposite for sequestering methyl orange was about 68.85 mg/ . Furthermore, negative ΔG0 and ΔH0 values obtained through thermodynamic investigation indicated that the adsorption of methyl orange onto TiO2-SiO2/alginate nanocomposite was simultaneous and exothermic in nature, respectively.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Pure anatase TiO2 nanoparticles with various Ag and Sn contents were synthesized by hydrothermal and sol-gel low-temperature methods. Structural and morphological characterizations of synthesized nanoparticles were performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm and brunauer-emmett-teller (BET) techniques. The effect of synthesis procedure on the crystalline structure, crystal size, surface area, pore size distribution and photocatalytic activity of synthesized samples were studied. The photocatalytic activity was tested vs. degradation of methylene blue (MB) under black light radiation. Ag/Sn-TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by hydrothermal method showed higher photoactivity during the degradation of MB under black light irradiation because of being enhanced in the specific surface area, total pore volume, and its reduction in the crystallite size. An artificial neural network (ANN) comprising four input variables (mol% of dopant ions, photocatalyst dosage, initial dye concentration, and pH of the solution), eight neurons and an output variable (degradation efficiency %) was optimized, tested and validated for MB degradation by Ag/Sn-TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized via hydrothermal method. The results showed that the predicted data from the designed ANN model are in good agreement with the experimental data with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.979. A 98.9% photodegradation efficiency of MB was achieved by utilizing 0.07 mol% Ag and 0.03 mol% Sn co-doped TiO2 at pH = 12.
