- چکیده انگلیسی: Background Blended learning means using more than one method, strategy, technique, and medium in education to provide content and training materials. This method can affect student’s learning owing to its flexibility and ability to use advantages of both face to face and e-learning methods. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two methods of blended and face to face learning on the knowledge and performance of master’s degree students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Methods This research is a quasi-experimental study designed as pretest/posttest, which was conducted on 60 students. Based on the criteria, the selected students were randomly divided into two groups of 30 individuals to receive either blended or face to face learning. Data were collected at pretest and posttest using questionnaires and checklists. The acceptable significance level was set at 0.05 (α = 0.05). Face and content validity of the questionnaire and checklist were assessed by four professors in the field of education. Reliability of the questionnaire and checklist was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, which gave the values of 0.72 and 0.7, respectively. Data were analyzed through paired and independent t-tests in SPSS version 19. Results Results showed that the increases in pretest scores compared to posttest scores were significantly higher in the blended learning group than the face-to-face learning group (P < 0.05). The score of the blended learning group also showed a significant increase compared to the other group (P < 0.05). Conclusions If the methods, techniques, and educational media are used in the right place (according to the target group) and the right way, it can help improve and facilitate learning.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Critical thinking, playing an important part in improving clinical performance and professional responsibility, has gained special significance. As this skill could be taught and learnt, the aim of this study was to determine the level of critical thinking in dental students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 163 dental students studying in the clinical phase. The data were collected, using the standardized California critical thinking skills test, Form B (CCTST) questionnaire. Results: The mean of the overall score of critical thinking for the participants was 14.53±3.28 out of 34. The majority of the students were in the medium level regarding both the overall tests’ score and the five critical thinking sub-skills. There was not a significant difference, considering sex and the educational level. Conclusion: Although the results are indicative of an average normal level of critical thinking among dental clinical students, yet this level doesn’t seem fully satisfactory. Regarding the importance of this skill in professional and clinical performance and reasoning, educational administrators should focus on reforming educational programs, and improving educational environments especially in clinical fields in order to reinforce these skills.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Unfair distribution of healthcare services is one of the most important issues all over the world. The present study aimed to determine the distribution pattern of available hospital beds and the accessibility pattern to hospitals in Shiraz.Methods: This was an analytical study. At first, spatial distribution pattern of available hospital beds was determined using Moran’s Index (Moran’s I). Then, the accessibility pattern to hospitals was determined using Euclidean distance and network travel distance metrics. Allof the analyses were conducted using Arc GIS (10.3) software.Results: The results revealed that available hospital beds had a random and unbalanced distribution pattern in Shiraz based on Moran’s I (Moran’s I=-0.05). Besides, according the achieved standard service areas for the existing hospitals, calculated by using Network analysis tools, 65.47% of Shiraz population was underserved in terms of accessibility. Furthermore, assessment of accessibility patterns resulted from both types of applied distances, indicating that in most cases hospitals were located in the central parts of the city.Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, distribution of hospitals in Shiraz was unfair. Therefore, policymakers are suggested to plan in order to increase the number of Shiraz hospitals. They are also recommended that they should give priority to establishing new hospitals in areas without standard accessibility over areas with standard accessibility based on the results of the present study.Keywords: Accessibility, Available bed, Hospital, Moran’s index, Network analysis, Spatial pattern

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Communication skills are one of the most important skills for health care managers and play an important role in their personal life and future occupation. The present study aimed to evaluate the students’ communication skills as well as its relationship with the students’ demographic characteristics.Method: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 153 university students majoring in healthcare management in 2014. A self-administered communication skills questionnaire and demographic information form were used to collect the data. Then, the data were analyzed by using SPSS software and appropriate statistical tests including T-Test and ANOVA.Results: The results showed that the students on average got 77.60 out of possible 100 in communication skills. The relationship between skills and demographic characteristics, except age, was not statistically significant (p<0.001). The total Cronbach’salpha was estimated 0.7. There was a statistically significant difference between the communication skills scores of participants in terms of different age groups (p<0.05).Conclusion: The present findings showed a moderate score in communicative skills in students of health care management. Although the communication skill levels in these students were not low, due to the importance of these skills in their future occupation, serious attention is needed to improve their communication skills.Keywords: Communication, Social skills, Administrative personnel, Students, Universities, Medical

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Social capital is multidimensional and it is about the value of social networks and relations between people. Social capital refers to the relationships that forms the quality and quantity of the society’s social interactions. This study was designed to determine the relationship between social capital and faculty member’s job satisfaction in Shiraz Medical School.Method: Social capital is multidimensional and it is about the value of social networks and relations between people. Social capital refers to the relationships that forms the quality and quantity of the society’s social interactions. This study was designed to determine the relationship between social capital and faculty member’s job satisfaction in Shiraz Medical School.Results: 69 (57%) female and 51 (43%) male faculty members participated in this study. Also the findings indicated that mean±SD of social capital was 67.75±6.67 from 75 and that of job satisfaction was 77.1±6.41 from 100. There was a significant relationship between age and job satisfaction (p=0.002), but no relationship was found with marital status(p=0.24).There was a positive relationship between job satisfaction and social capital (p=0.003).Conclusion: Considering the results obtained from this study, it seems that paying attention to social capital and personal characteristics is a useful approach for behavioral interventions and organizational goals in order to upgrade the job satisfaction.Keywords: Social capital, Job satisfaction, Faculty members

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Today, progressing science and technology at all domains, including education and research, will bring new opportunities to resolve the communication and interaction problems. The aim of this study was to determine potential factors affecting the thesis supervision and provide a web-based solution.
Methods: This is a developmental study conducted in two theoretical and technical phases at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2017. The theoretical phase was performed in three stages, including literature review and investigating the existing studies and Delphi’s study based experts’ view as well as identifying the thesis supervision status based on 200 postgraduate students’ point of view. The technical phase had two stages, including to draw processes and to design the physical
and logic schemes of the system. The Thesis Tele-Supervision software named SAHPAD was designed by C# and ASP. NET programing languages.
Results: The results showed that out of 40 potential factors specified at the first stage of theoretical phase by using experts’ opinion, 13 items were selected as the main factors. According to the results obtained from the students’ views at the third stage, the factor of “accessibility” had the minimum score, i.e. 3.15 mean of four, which was the worst status.
Conclusion: The designed system covered from the beginning to the end of the thesis workflow at its electronic frame with its various capabilities such as the interaction of the research team to decide the title, draft the proposal, prepare for thesis defense,etc.- انتشار مقاله: 24-09-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Virtual reality is a new method for trainingdifferent medical groups. Based on this technology, professionalsand students of various medical sciences can determine their levelof competence for medical treatment before any performance onthe patient. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify theapplications of virtual reality technology for training the medicalgroups.Methods: This is a scoping review study conducted in 2016.Articles were retrieved through the search of related keywords indatabases such as Pub Med, Scopus, Web of Sciences, Springer,and Google scholar. Then, after applying the entry criteria, 21papers were selected from a total of 1343. Data extraction was doneby a data collection form. The collected data were summarizedand reported using content analysis technique according to thestudy purpose.Results: The findings of the study indicated that 11 cases (48%)have used virtual education technology for laparoscopic surgerytraining. Using virtual reality has improved learning in 17 (74%)studies. A higher accuracy in medical practice by people trainedthrough VR has been reported in 20 (87%) studies.Conclusion: The results indicate that the application of virtualreality capabilities plays an important role in improving theperformance of different medical groups. According to the results,it can be suggested that virtual reality capabilities should be usedto train different medical groups based on their individual andcollective needs.Keywords: Virtual reality, Training, Clinical trials, Technology

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: In recent years curriculum reform and integrationwas done in many medical schools. The integrated curriculum isa popular concept all over the world. In Shiraz medical school,the reform was initiated by stablishing the horizontal basicscience integration model and Early Clinical Exposure (ECE)for undergraduate medical education. The purpose of this studywas to provide the required data for the program evaluation ofthis curriculum for undergraduate medical students, using CIPPprogram evaluation model.Methods: This study is an analytic descriptive and triangulationmixed method study which was carried out in Shiraz MedicalSchool in 2012, based on the views of professors of basic sciencescourses and first and second year medical students. The studyevaluated the quality of the relationship between basic sciencesand clinical courses and the method of presenting such coursesbased on the Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) model.The tools for collecting data, both quantitatively and qualitatively,were some questionnaires, content analysis of portfolios, semistructuredinterview and brain storming sessions. For quantitativedata analysis, SPSS software, version 14, was used.Results: In the context evaluation by modified DREEMquestionnaire, 77.75%of the students believed that this educationalsystem encourages them to actively participate in classes. Courseschedule and atmosphere of class were reported suitable by 87.81%and 83.86% of students. In input domain that was measured by aresearcher made questionnaire, the facilities for education wereacceptable except for shortage of cadavers. In process evaluation,the quality of integrated modules presentation and Early ClinicalExposure (ECE) was good from the students’ viewpoint. Inproduct evaluation, students’ brain storming, students’ portfolioand semi-structured interview with faculties were done, showingsome positive aspects of integration and some areas that needimprovement.Conclusion: The main advantage of assessing an educationalprogram based on CIPP evaluation model is that the context, input,process and product of the program are viewed and evaluatedsystematically. This will help the educational authorities to makeproper decisions based on the weaknesses and strengths of theprogram on its continuation, cessation and revision. Based on the results of this study, the integrated basic sciences course forundergraduate medical students in Shiraz Medical School isat a desirable level. However, attempts to improve or reformsome sections and continual evaluation of the program and itsaccreditation seem to be necessary.Keywords: Integration; Medical students; Basic science; Curriculum

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: In e-learning, people get involved in a processand create the content (product) and make it available for virtuallearners. The present study was carried out in order to evaluatethe first virtual master program in medical education at ShirazUniversity of Medical Sciences according to P3 Model.Methods: This is an evaluation research study with post singlegroup design used to determine how effective this program was.All students 60 who participated more than one year in thisvirtual program and 21 experts including teachers and directorsparticipated in this evaluation project. Based on the P3 e-learningmodel, an evaluation tool with 5-point Likert rating scale wasdesigned and applied to collect the descriptive data.Results: Students reported storyboard and course design as themost desirable element of learning environment (2.30±0.76),but they declared technical support as the less desirable part(1.17±1.23).Conclusion: Presence of such framework in this regard andusing it within the format of appropriate tools for evaluation ofe-learning in universities and higher education institutes, whichpresent e-learning curricula in the country, may contribute toimplementation of the present and future e-learning curriculaefficiently and guarantee its implementation in an appropriate way.Keywords: Elearning; Evaluation; Education

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: In this study, the authors aimed to examine theeffects of cooperative learning methods using Web Quest andteam-based learning on students’ self-direction, self-regulation,and academic achievement.Methods: This is a comparative study of students taking a course inmental health and psychiatric disorders. In two consecutive years,a group of students were trained using the Web Quest approachas a teaching strategy (n=38), while the other group was taughtusing team-based learning (n=39). Data gathering was based onGuglielmino’s self-directed learning readiness scale (SDLRS) andBuford’s self-regulation questionnaire. The data were analyzed bydescriptive test using M (IQR), Wilcoxon signed-rank test, andthe Mann–Whitney U-test in SPSS software, version 13. p<0.05was considered as the significance level.Results: The results of the Mann–Whitney U test showed that theparticipants’ self- directed (self-management) and self-regulatedlearning differed between the two groups (p=0.04 and p=0.01,respectively). Wilcoxon test revealed that self-directed learningindices (self-control and self-management) were differed betweenthe two strategies before and after the intervention. However, thescores related to learning (students’ final scores) were higher inthe WebQuest approach than in team-based learning.Conclusion: By employing modern educational approaches,students are not only more successful in their studies but alsoacquire the necessary professional skills for future performance.Further research to compare the effects of new methods ofteaching is required.Keywords: Clinical; Nursing; Training; Students learning; Internet; Problem-based learning
