- چکیده انگلیسی: The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of platelet growth factors and periosteal mesenchymal stem cells on bone healing process, radiographically. Forty male White New Zealand rabbits in five equal groups were used in this study. A 2 mm full thickness bone defect was made in left radial bone of each animal. In group A (control) the defect was left with no medical intervention. In group B the defect was covered by a fibrin membrane. In group C the defect was covered by a fibrin membrane plus platelet growth factors. In group D the defect was covered by a fibrin membrane plus periosteal mesenchymalstem cells, and in group E the defect was covered by a fibrin membrane enriched with platelet growth factors and periosteal mesenchymalstem cells. Radiological evaluation was done immediately after surgery (week 0) and then at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th weeks after operation. At the end of the eighth week, bone samples were taken to evaluate the histopathology. The radiological and histopathological observations showed a superior bone healing in the groups D and E, after eight weeks in comparison with the groups A, B and C. According to this study, it could be concluded that the platelet growth factors and periosteal mesenchymalstem cells could promote bone regeneration in long bone defects in a rabbit model.

- چکیده انگلیسی: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of subcutaneous administration of synthetic eugenol (EG) for disbudding of goat kids, as a new chemical method. Thirty apparently healthy Raieni (Cashmere) goat kids (five-day-old) were divided randomly into six groups (n = 5). In the pathology (P) groups (P3, P8 and P60 according to the sample collection day after injection) an amount of 0.10 mL of EG was subcutaneously administrated in both horn buds. In the disbudding 1 and 2 (DB1, DB2) groups, 0.10 mL of EG, and in the control (C) group 0.10 mL normal saline was subcutaneously injected in the right horn buds, respectively. Eugenol injection in DB2 group was done in twelve-day-old goat kids. The left horn buds of DB1, DB2 and C groups were considered as control of horn outgrowing. The horn buds, kidneys, liver, lung, brain and heart, tissue specimens were collected from P3 and P8 groups, and bud skin samples were collected from P60 group. The results showed that the EG was able to stop the horn growth in the first week of goat life. There was no significant difference between left and right horn size in the C group. Histopathological study revealed complete necrosis of bud tissue in dermal and epidermal layers, in P3 animals. Healing and re-epithelialization were seen in the samples taken from P8 group. Subcutaneous injection of the synthetic EG can be considered as a new method for goat kids disbudding.

- چکیده انگلیسی: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of injection of essential oil of Eugenia caryophyllata in the kid horn buds, as a new chemical technique for disbudding. Five-day-old healthy goat kids from both sexes (n = 16) were divided randomly into 4 equal groups. In groups 1, 2 and 3, 0.2 mL of clove essence and in group 4 (control) 0.2 mL of normal saline was injected into the left horn bud of goat kids. Right horn bud in all kids was considered to ensure that they are horned. During the study, the rate of horn growth were evaluated in determined time intervals between groups 1 and 4. Tissue samples were taken from right and left horn bud in groups 2 and 3, at five and ten days after clove essence injection, for microscopic study. The results of the study showed that the clove essence stopped horn growth, whereas there was no significant difference in horn growth rate between left and right horns after injection of normal saline, in group 4. Histopathological study showed that injection of clove essence caused complete necrosis of epidermis and underlying dermis with collagenolysis in horn bud tissues, 5 days after injection and then progress in healing process was observed after 10 days. According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the injection of clove essence is an effective method to stop horn growth without any undesirable effects on clinical parameters in goat kids.

- چکیده انگلیسی: A one-month-old male terrier dog was referred in shock status with a history of anorexia, tachypnea, abdominal distention and progressive weight loss. Auscultation of right side of the lungs found enhanced respiratory noises. The thorough auscultation of the opposite side of the chest revealed the presence of typical intestinal sounds. Cardiac auscultation revealed muffled heart sounds and a diminished palpable precordial cardiac impulse was evident. The radiograph showed the presence of gas within the bowel in abrupt contrast to the adjacent structures of soft tissue opacity. Conservative treatment was failed and the animal died. At necropsy, cranial displacement of abdominal viscera into the pericardial sac was seen. A definitive diagnosis of peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia was made. Although congenital pericardial diseases are rare in dogs, awareness of the clinical manifestation of these kinds of defects combined with early use of available imaging modalities can yield a preoperative diagnosis.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this study we investigated histopathological changes of mice ovarian tissues following long-term administration of copper sulfate and induction of chronic copper poisoning. The study comprised of three different groups of twenty one mice as follows: The first group (Group 100) which treated by gavage with copper sulfate at a dose of 100 mg kg-1 for 5 weeks. The second group (Group 200), which received 200 mg kg-1 copper sulfate by gavage during experimental period (35 days), and control animals (Group C), which received the same volume of distilled water in the same way. The blood samples were obtained from 7 cases out of 21 animals of each group by cardiac puncture at the end of first, third and fifth week. Ovarian lesions were observed in group 100 after 35th day and in group 200 after 21st day. The histopathologic examination revealed widespread ovarian follicle atresia in group 200 after 35th day Atretic follicles had numerous cell debris and inflammatory cells in the antral cavity. In degenerative antral follicles granulose cells degenerated and desquamated into antrum. In some degenerative antral follicles infiltration of inflammatory cells into granulose cell layer and antrum were observed. The histopathlogic data indicate the possibility of adverse effect of copper poisoning on the mice ovarian tissue. Copper might be mediator of the effect of oxidative damage and play an essential role in reproductive system.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Metronidazole is categorized in pharmacological group C and few researches have been conducted about its pathological effects on the human fetus. Since the embryogenesis in chicken is similar to that in human beings, in the current study, the toxic effects of this drug on embryo skin and integument tissues were assessed using a chicken embryo model. Method: The experiment was done on 36 fertilized Ross 308 eggs with the mean egg-weight of (54.4 ± 0.8g). The embryos of the control group received sterile phosphate buffered saline solution into the yolk sac on day 4 of the growing period. The embryos of the two treatment groups received metronidazole at dosages of 50 and 100 mg per Kg body-weight, respectively. The pathological effects of the drug on the embryos’ skin and integument tissues were evaluated using macroscopic and histopathologic studies. Results: According to the results, metronidazole has adverse effects on the embryo skin and integument tissues during embryonic development. Macroscopic evaluation of the organs revealed white nodules, of about 1mm in diameter, on the skin surface of the embryos. Histopathological effects of the drug consisted of hyperkeratosis, degeneration of the integument tissues and detachment from the epidermis. Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, it is concluded that consumption of metronidazole during pregnancy can cause adverse effects on the skin and integument tissues of the human fetus. Therefore, the drug should only be given during pregnancy when benefits outweigh its risks.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Case Description- The peresent case described sialocele associated with sialoliths and ectopic ossification in a 3-year-old female terrier dog.
Clinical Findings- In the general examination, an enlargement fluctuate mass was seen blow the jaw around the neck. Clinical parameters (TPR) and blood test results were normal. The radiograph was showed the fluid opacity mass with some radioopaque particles within it. The fine needle aspiration and then the cytologic investigation proved that the mass was filled with saliva.
Treatment and Outcome- The surgical technique was the best treatment for removing the affected mandibular and sublingual salivary glands. In histopathologic study, no salivary acini or ducts were observed. The mass wall lined with epithelium tissue in some area. The well differentiated trabecular bones were present in the inner surface of cyst. Some sialoliths in 2-4 mm dimeter were identified in the mass.
Clinical Relevance- Salivary sialocele is a collected saliva in a cavity formed of connective tissue. The most affected animal is dog in any age specialy in male, and rare in other species.- انتشار مقاله: 24-10-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: Case Description- An Arabian 10-mounth-old filly with a large mass on the left lateral side of the neck was referred to the Department of Surgery, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Shahid Bahnoar University of Kerman. Clinical Findings- In clinical examination a large, ulcerated mass (12×10×4cm diameter) was detected on left lateral side of the neck, covered with some serosangeneous discharge. Vital parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature) were within normal range. Treatment and Outcome-The surgery was performed under general inhalation anesthesia and the mass was removed en bloc. Histopathological examination of the mass showed a large number of eosinophils infiltrated within the dermis and superficial hypodermis, which was diagnosed as eosinophilic granuloma. Clinical Relevance- This benign tumor is relatively common in horse which is caused mostly due to hypersensitivity reaction to some unknown allergens and chemicals and most of the times are idiopathic. The size of the tumor in this case was much larger than what is reported in the literature.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective- The objective of the present work was to investigate the effects of tramadol administration on sperm quality and testicular tissue in mice. Design- Experimental study Animal- Sixty-three mature male mice Procedures- Mice were randomly divided into three experimental groups (n=21) and the following treatments were intraperitoneally administered, 3 times a week, for 6 weeks: Control male mice were given physiological saline. Two other groups were given different doses of tramadol including 10 mg/kg (group T1) and 20 mg/kg (group T2). Seven mice in each group were sacrificed at weeks 3, 6 and 12 after the beginning of treatments. Left testes were removed for epiddydimal sperm quality and histopathological evaluations. Results- The results showed that sperm concentration, motility and vitality in group T1 and T2 were significantly decreased (PMicroscopic examinations revealed that tramadol in both doses damaged the testicular tissue at weeks 3 and 6, so that more degenerative changes were observed in group T2 at week 6. Most of histopathological parameters returned to the normal structure in groups T1 and T2, at week 12. Conclusion and clinical relevance- According to the results of present study, it can be concluded that long-term administration of tramadol have adverse effects on sperm quality and testicular tissues and these effects are dose dependant. Also the negative effects of tramadol on testes are reversible.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective- Trigonella foenum graecum, (Fenugreek) has anti-inflammation, antiseptic and antidiabetic activities in traditional medicine. This study was performed to investigate the protection effects of Fenugreek seed extract on the experimental reflux esophigitis (RE) in rats. Design- experimental study. Animals- 24 male Wistar albino rats. Procedures- Rats were randomly allocated into 4 groups including the sham-operated groups with normal saline (sham I) and extract (sham II) administration, the reflux esophagitis group (the reflux control group), and the reflux esophagitis group with extract administration (reflux extract group). Reflux esophagitis was induced by ligating the pylorus and the limiting ridge. Normal saline and Fenugreek extract were gavaged for one week before operation in the related groups. Then, the animals were euthanized and the esophagus was evaluated for gross and histopathologic features. Gross lesions in the esophagus were graded according to the scoring system of Oh and colleagues. Results- Significant difference in the gross lesions was observed between the reflux control and reflux extract groups. The reflux control group showed severe mucosal erosions and ulcers in the esophagus. Microscopic findings in the extract treatment group varied from no lesions to mild damages including hydropic degeneration, epithelial clefts and vesicles formation. Conclusion and clinical relevance- Based on the results, it can be concluded that the aqueous extract of T. foenum graecum seed have protective effects against RE and this extract can be considered as one of the therapeutic options in the clinical trial studies.
