- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and objectives: Crocus sativus L. (Iridaceae) commonly known as saffron, is a popular spice which is used for its pleasant aroma and favored color. Regarding the previous reports about the neuroprotective behavior of saffron or its constituents, in the present work, the neuroprotective property of saffron in rat retina was investigated against light damage in a system biology study. Methods: Retina gene profiles of 4 groups (each group including 3 samples) of rats (control; C light damage; L, Saffron; S, and saffron-light damage; SL) which are included in GSE22818 were extracted from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). The significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from C-L groups analysis which are not included in S-SL comparison were screened by pathway analysis to find the critical protected genes against light damage by saffron. Results: Numbers of 46 gene were protected by saffron versus light damage significantly. The findings revealed that Casp3, Myd88, Birc3, Tnfrsf1a, Myc, Nfkb2, Fgf2 were the important protected genes by saffron against light damage. “MAPK signaling pathway” and “apoptosis” were highlighted as important related pathways for 46 DEGs. Conclusion: Saffron protects a part of light damage which is controlled mostly by Casp3, Myd88, Birc3, Tnfrsf1a, Myc, Nfkb2, Fgf2. It seems other parts of damage should be studied in more details to find a complete prospective of molecular mechanism of light damage effect on retina.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this study, yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) was prepared using a facile electrochemical technique. Four samples were synthesized in 0, 20, 40 and 60°C by electrochemical pulse deposition and were then calcined at 1200°C. The effect of synthesis temperature on morphology and structure of YAG was studied using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Furthermore, the electrochemical performance of samples was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and square-wave voltammetry methods. Structural analysis shows that by increasing the synthesis temperature, the network structure of the samples changes from amorphous to the crystalline structure. SEM results also affirm the structural change and show particle size increase in YAG samples from about 90 nm to 2 µm, as a result of rising electrodeposition temperature. The influence of the observed network structure alteration on the catalytic performance of samples was also found to be very significant. Square-wave voltammetry electrochemical analysis of YAG samples leads to enhanced electro-oxidation features, as a result of temperature increase at the synthesis stage. As a proof of concept, the as-prepared YAG samples were successfully employed for electrochemical sensing of ascorbic acid, which showed a significant rise in the electric current of the sensor.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Human serum albumin has been used as a model protein for protein folding and ligand binding studies over many decades. Due to its long life period and high concentration in plasma, HSA is highly sensitive to glycation. It is reported that 175 mg/dL glucose concentration is a threshold of kidney activity for the beginning of excretion of glucose. pH denaturation of HSA in absence and presence of different concentrations of glucose is studied and based on the Pace two-state model, the findings are analyzed. In addition, florescence emission data of albumin range in the period of 300-500 nm was depicted. The amounts of free energy change and [D]1/2 parameters of unfolding in correspond to florescence date indicate that glucose induces fine structural change in human serum albumin. Results showed that 175 mg/dL glucose concentration is a critical point for albumin structural and functional alteration.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer. Alteration in gene expression is the important event that happens in cancer cell. Detection of this event is possible by proteomics techniques. Methods: Normal and tumor tissues were taken from BCC patient. Total proteins were purified by standard methods, and proteins were separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2DE). Mass spectrometry (MS-MALDI method) was used as a powerful instrument for protein identification. Results: Eighty seven spots of protein were detected in 2DE gels out of which, 76 spots had different expression in normal and cancer gel images. Comparison with the data base showed 11 proteins. Nine spots had no association with BCC, but expression of ceruloplasmin and C3b were decreased and increased respectively in cancer tissues, compared to normal cell. The mass spectrometry results were aldolase C, Prx-cis and VDAC. Conclusion: These recognized proteins, either with increased or decreased expression in cancer tissue, might be considered as new biomarkers in BCC patients.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): This study aims to evaluate combined proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) metabolic profiling approaches, for discriminating between mustard airway diseases (MADs) and healthy controls and for providing biochemical information on this disease.
Materials and Methods: In the present study, analysis of serum samples collected from 17 MAD subjects and 12 healthy controls was performed using NMR. Of these subjects, 14 (8 patients and 6 controls) were analyzed by GC-MS. Then, their spectral profiles were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares regression discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA).
Results: A panel of twenty eight metabolite biomarkers was generated for MADs, sixteen NMR-derived metabolites (3-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid, 3-hydroxyisobutyrate, lactic acid, lysine, glutamic acid, proline, hydroxyproline, dimethylamine, creatine, citrulline, choline, acetic acid, acetoacetate, cholesterol, alanine, and lipid (mainly VLDL)) and twelve GC-MS-derived metabolites (threonine, phenylalanine, citric acid, myristic acid, pentadecanoic acid, tyrosine, arachidonic acid, lactic acid, propionic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid). This composite biomarker panel could effectively discriminate MAD subjects from healthy controls, achieving an area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values of 1 and 0.79 for NMR and GC-MS, respectively.
Conclusion: In the present study, a robust panel of twenty-eight biomarkers for detecting MADs was established. This panel is involved in three metabolic pathways including aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, arginine, and proline metabolism, and synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies, and could differentiate MAD subjects from healthy controls with a higher accuracy.- انتشار مقاله: 03-03-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The internet has unique properties that include ease of access, ease of use, low cost, anonymity, and its attractiveness which resulted in problems such as internet addiction. Different statistics has been reported about internet addiction rate, but there is not a suitable estimation about the growth of Internet addiction in Iran. The aim of this study is to analyze the growth of Internet addiction in Iran using meta-analysis method.Methods: At the first stage, by searching in scientific databases such as Magiran, SID, Scopus, ISI, Embase and use of keywords like Internet addiction, 30 articles were chosen. The outcomes of the study combined together with using meta-analysis method (random effects model). The analysis of the data was performed using R and Stata software.Findings: Based on 30 studies and sample size of 30439, the growth rate of Internet addiction based on the random effects model was 8% [with confidence interval (CI) of 95%]. The meta regression model showed that the trend of Internet addiction growth rate in Iran increased from 1385 to 1394.Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of Internet addiction in Iran seems moderate. Therefore, the necessity of identification, treatment, and prevention of the age groups which are at the risk is being sensed by the responsible and related authorities.
