- چکیده انگلیسی: Herein, the application of Carnahan-Starling-vdW-β equation of state (EoS) for 13 refrigerant fluids was investigated. The EoS could predict the saturated liquid densities of these refrigerants over the temperature range of 100-400 K and pressures from zero up to187 MPa with the average absolute deviations of 2.66%. The accuracy of Carnahan-Starling-vdW-β EoS in liquid density prediction was also compared with Peng-Robinson EoS and a perturbed hard-sphere-chain EoS. The surface tension and sound velocity of the saturated refrigerants were also calculated using the Carnahan-Starling-vdW-β EoS within 4.76%. and 5.66%, respectively. Finally, Carnahan-Starling-vdW-β was employed to predict Joule-Thomson inversion curve for some studied refrigerant fluids

- چکیده انگلیسی: calculate some thermodynamic properties of molten polymers including specific volume and isothermal compressibility (S.M. Hoseini, Physical Chemistry & Electrochemistry, 2 (2014) 56-65). This work extended that EOS to predict the volumetric properties of some molten ethylene copolymers including ethylene/1-octene, ethylene/1-butene (xethylene equal to 0.8543 and 0.563), ethylene/propene. The ability of the extended EOS was checked by comparing the results with 738 literature data points for the specific volumes over the temperature range from 422.35-505.89 K and pressure range from 0.1 up to 200 MPa. The average absolute deviation (AAD) of the calculated specific volumes from literature data was found to be 1.12%. The isothermal compressibility coefficients, κT have also been predicted using ISM EOS. From 180 data points examined, the AAD of estimated κT was equal to 8.48%. Our calculations on the volumetric and thermodynamic properties of studied copolymers reproduced the literature data with reasonably good accuracy.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Biotransformation process has been used in various industries due to its ability to produce valuable chemicals and address environmental concerns. Propylene hydroformylation is a process in which n-butyraldehyde and isobutyraldehyde are produced. N-butyraldehyde is a high valuable chemical with many industrial applications, while isobutyraldehyde produced as a by-product is an environmental pollutant. This study offers a biotechnological approach for conversion of isobutyraldehyde into a high-value substance. An engineered strain of Escherichia coli was developed by genomic insertion of alcohol-dehydrogenase gene (adhA) from Lactococcus lactis which can convert isobutyraldehyde into isobutanol.
Materials and Methods: The adhA gene was engineered to substitute some of its amino acids to result in a more efficient enzyme. Engineered gene was synthesized and introduced into E. coli genome to develop recombinant E. coli EG-296 strain. In addition, by using the Qualiteck-4 software, 16 well-defined experiments (L16 Orthogonal array) with two levels of seven variable parameters were used to optimize the process efficiency.
Results: The findings of this study revealed that the E. coli strain EG-296 is capable of converting isobutyraldehyde into isobutanol. The optimization results showed that optimum medium composition for the highest isobutanol production were 10 g/L glucose or glycerol as carbon source, 10 g/L NH4CL as nitrogen source, mid-log of inoculum age, and 1% inoculum volume in 25ml medium. After optimization, 560 mg/L isobutanol was produced from 600 mg/L isobutyraldehyde with 91% yield.
Conclusions: Recombinant E. coli strain with a relatively optimum medium can be used to remove isobutyraldehyde in refineries or other industries producing this chemical as a by-product.- انتشار مقاله: 28-07-1398

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Two of the most important tests used in the forensic genetics are DNA fingerprinting and paternity testing. Short tandem repeats (STRs) are very frequently used in identification. Nevertheless, there are limitations on the use of these markers in identifying badly degraded DNA. In these cases, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are used because of their shorter amplicon lengths. Recognition of SNPs of high informativeness is a vital step in preparing a list of suitable SNPs. The present research aimed to determine the maximum informative SNPs to be used for identification in Iranian Azari population.
Materials and Methods: Four SNPs developed by the SNPforID Consortium were selected. The allele frequencies of the SNPs were obtained using HRM Analysis on DNA samples taken from 100 different individuals. The SNPs that satisfied the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and had heterozygosity of higher than 0.50 and equal allele frequency were selected as SNPs of the maximum informativeness.
Results: Two polymorphisms (Rs2107612 and Rs1355366) had equal allele frequencies and heterozygosity of higher than 50 percent. Therefore, these 2 polymorphisms are considered highly informative among the studied Azeri population and can be considered in preparing a list of suitable SNPs.
Conclusions: Results of the present study can be used along with other SNPs to increase the identification power for some samples. It can also help preparing a database of suitable SNPs to be used for identification in Azeri population in Iran.- انتشار مقاله: 06-01-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Breast cancer, as a multifactorial disease is the most frequent cancer among women and second most commonly diagnosed cancer in worldwide. Breast cancer is associated with mutations in several genes such as PIK3CA. Phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K) is an important group of lipid kinases that regulate the vital cellular functions such as survival, proliferation, cell growth, motility, differentiation, and intracellular trafficking. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of rs2230461 of PIK3CA gene with the incidence of breast cancer.
Materials and Methods: A total of 198 healthy donors and 205 breast cancer patients were recruited. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes by Triton X100 technique. Genotyping was performed using RFLP-PCR protocol. Chi-square test, odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs were used to determine associations.
Results: There were no significant differences observed regarding the PIK3CA genotype frequencies at codon 391 between patient and control groups (P = 0.17). However, by comparing stage III breast cancer patients and control groups, there was a significantly higher frequency of the GG genotype among stage III cases compared to control (P = 0.01). Although the PIK3CA I391M polymorphism has been located in the C2 domain and doesn’t involve in the binding site, it can affect the protein function.
Conclusions: Since even those mutations that are far from the binding site can affect the protein function and change its dynamic behavior through allosteric impacts and lead to tumorigenesis at last. Since PIK3CA mutations mainly appear late in tumorigenesis, exactly before or coincident with invasion, and may be involved in tumor formation, it is suggested that this polymorphism may be involved in breast cancer invasion.- انتشار مقاله: 04-10-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Statistics have shown that the rate of technical failure in peritoneal dialysis (PD) is greater than hemodialysis. In this regard, the present study is aimed to determine the prevalence and risks factors of technique failure of PD in Iranian children using the country’s computerized PD data registry system.
Materials and Methods: Data of 405 PD patients younger than 20 years old were extracted from Iranian PD registry. The joint models of longitudinal and time-to-event data were used to assess independent risk factors of PD technique failure.
Results: PD technique failure occurred in 17.3% of the patients. 1 ng/ml increase in the baseline level of ferritin and 1 mmHg increase in the baseline systolic blood pressure will result in 0.11% (Hazard Ratio [HR]=1.0011; p=0.001), and 1.25% (HR=1.0125; p=0.046) increase in the risk of PD technique failure, respectively. In addition, 1 g/dl decrease in the baseline hemoglobin will cause a 16.25% increase in the risk of PD technique failure (HR=0.8602; p=0.026). Finally, 1 mg/l decrease in the blood urea nitrogen over time after starting PD will result in 1.75% increase in the risk of PD technique failure (HR=0.9829; p=0.006).
Conclusion: The findings from this study showed that an increase in ferritin as well as systolic blood pressure at the beginning of PD increase the risk of technique failure. Furthermore, an increase in the hemoglobin level at the beginning of PD as well as an increase in the blood urea nitrogen over time after starting PD have protective impacts on pediatric PD technique failure.- انتشار مقاله: 09-08-1398

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is usually accompanied with other comorbidities that make treatment suboptimal and results in inadequate outcomes. Investigating the factors having an effect on improvement of ADHD can lead to better outcomes and a higher adherence to medication.
Materials and Methods
This historical cohort study was carried out on records of 6 to 13 year old patients with ADHD during the years 2008 to 2015 in the Children's Medical Center in Tehran, Iran. Baseline characteristics of patients such as gender, birth weight, the age of the first diagnosis, weight, severity of ADHD at the baseline, time duration of receiving the Methylphenidate, types of comorbidity, and dosage of Methylphenidate were extracted from hospital records. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) was used to develop a multivariable model. This model is based on a stepwise procedure.
Results
One hundred and thirty-nine children (75.5% boys, mean age of 97.8±26.8 months) were assessed. Time duration of receiving Methylphenidate (OR=1.06; p< 0.001), severity of ADHD at the baseline (OR=0.94; p< 0.001), and dosage of Methylphenidate (OR=2.34; p< 0.001) had a significant relationship with improvement. In this study any relationship between improvement of ADHD and other factors was not found.
Conclusion
In this study, the clinical severity of ADHD at baseline, logarithm of dosage of Methylphenidate, and time duration of receiving the Methylphenidate were associated with improvement of ADHD.- انتشار مقاله: 30-05-1398

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: There is little information about the survival rate of pediatric peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and its risk factors. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess survival rate and its risk factors in Iranian children undergoing PD.
Materials and Methods: Demographic and laboratory data of 407 Iranian children (up to 19 years old) undergoing PD, from 20 centers in Iran were included. The outcome of interest in our study was survival rate and determination of its risk factors in PD children. The joint models of longitudinal and time-to-event data analysis was used.
Results: The median duration of follow-up was 537 (interquartile range: 146 to 1,177) days. Finally, 72 (17.7%) patients died during a period of 23 years. Our results showed that one-year survival rate of PD patients was 93.6% and five-year survival rate was 76.9%. In addition, the most important risk factors for the PD all-cause mortality were age (HR=0.9301; 95% CI: 0.9031 to 0.9587), serum creatinine (HR=0.8907; 95% CI: 0.8138 to 0.9750), platelet count (HR=0.9999; 95% CI: 0.99995 to 0.99999), aspartate aminotransferase level (HR=1.0001; 95% CI: 0.9999, 1.0002), alkaline phosphatase (HR=0.9989; 95% CI: 0.9982 to 0.9997), renal solute clearance rate (HR=0.9839; 95% CI: 0.9700 to 0.9981), and normalized protein catabolic rate (HR=0.4031; 95% CI: 0.1879, 0.8648).

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The present systematic review and meta-analysis is designed in order to assess the association between passive and active smoking and lipid profile of children and adolescents.
Materials and Methods: An extensive search was done in databases of Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus and CINAHL until October 2017. Two independent researchers screened articles and in the next step, full texts of probably relevant articles were read and summarized. At the end, results of mentioned studies were pooled and a standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was reported.
Results: Data from 17 studies (containing 41619 children and adolescents; age group between 4 and 18 years old; 51.72% boys) were entered. Comparing serum level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in two groups of exposed and non-exposed to cigarette smoking showed that active exposure (SMD= -0.40, 95% CI: -0.59 to -0.21) and passive exposure to cigarette smoke (SMD= -0.18, 95% CI: -0.30 to -0.06) decreases the serum level of mentioned lipoprotein. Additionally, active exposure to cigarette smoke (SMD=0.16, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.27) causes a modest increase in serum level of triglyceride. However, cigarette smoke exposure does not have any effect on the level of total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL).
Conclusion: The present meta-analysis showed that exposure to cigarette smoke leads to a significant decrease in the level of HDL and triglyceride but, it does not have any effect of the level of total cholesterol and LDL in children and adolescents.- انتشار مقاله: 23-12-1396
