- چکیده انگلیسی: In this research, we investigated the antidiabetic activity of Vitis elegans rhizome, which is used as traditional treatment for diabetes mellitus. The methanol, chloroform, petroleum ether, and hexane extracts of the plant root were obtained through serial exhaustive extraction and were analyzed by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Glycogen phosphorylase (GP) assay was done to determine the inhibitory effects of respective extracts on GP enzyme. Total phenol content was measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and brine shrimp test was done to evaluate the toxicity of the extracts. Evaluation of TLC plates alone and after spraying with different reagents indicated that terpenoid was the major component of the sample followed by alkaloid and phenol. Chloroform extract applied more inhibitory effects on GP enzyme activity with percentages of 39.65 in concentration of 2.5 mg/ml. This suppression effect was higher than glucose, as a standard inhibitory agent in the body. The highest amount of phenol was found in the methanol extract, equal to 49 mg GAE g-1. Petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extracts were considered as non-toxic solvents with LC50 values of 8.9, 3.5 and 3.7 mg/ml respectively. While hexane with 0.089 mg/ml LC50 value was classified as toxic extract. Based on the results of this study, we concluded that Vitis elegans rhizome, has the potential to be further studied for anti-hyperglycemic properties.

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Malakoplakia is a rare granulomatous disease of the genitourinary system. Gastrointestinal tract is the second most common site of involvement. It usually mimics a malignancy but its association with adenocarcinoma has been rarely reported.
A 59-year-old male patient with the history of weight loss and rectal bleeding for two months prior to administration was referred to our hospital. Pre-operative CT scan revealed a large sigmoid colon mass with the extension and invasion to the serosal surface as well as multiple regional metastatic lymph nodes. The patient underwent sigmoidectomy with the primary pathologic diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. Pathologic examination revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma invading peri-colic adipose tissue and inflammatory reaction compatible with malakoplakia at the invasive borders of the tumor with the extension to the serosal surface.
In the patients with gastrointestinal malakoplakia, the presence of possible adjacent malignancy should be screened. The possibility of over-staging should also be considered for adenocarcinoma cases in association with malakoplakia- انتشار مقاله: 09-09-1378

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Head and neck cancers are accounted for 4.9% of all cancers worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of malnutrition in patients with head and neck cancers in Yazd, Iran.
Methods: Eighty-nine patients with locally advanced head and neck cancers who referred to a training clinic or a hospital were included in this cross sectional study. All patients were assessed for nutritional status by Patient Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) questionnaire, and serum albumin and hemoglobin levels.
Results: Bases on PG-SGA assessment, 49.4% of the patients had proper nutrition, 30.4% were at risk or suspected to malnutrition, and 20.2% had severe malnutrition. The prevalence of malnutrition was significantly related to gender of patients, type of treatment and the stage of the disease. There was no significant relationship between the prevalence of malnutrition and age, although the prevalence of severe malnutrition was higher at older ages.
Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition among our patients was high. Nutritional evaluation is very important to detect patients at risk of malnutrition or with malnutrition and helps to choose the nutritional treatment.- انتشار مقاله: 16-10-1396

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective: Lymph node ratio (LNR) is defined as the ratio of the number of metastatic lymph nodes to the dissected
lymph nodes. LNR is a prognostic factor for many tumor types. The present study aimed to evaluate the prognostic
value of LNR in melanoma. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted on 123 patients with stage III
cutaneous melanoma. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards model was used to evaluate the correlations between LNR
and other clinicopathological factors associated with survival. The patients were divided into four groups in terms of
the LNR, including groups A (LNR≤0.18), B (0.180.625). Results:
Initially, LNR was evaluated as a continuous quantity associated with survival. In the univariate analysis, a significant
correlation was observed between LNR, overall survival (OS), and disease free survival (DFS). Meanwhile, the only
association observed in the multivariate analysis was between LNR and OS. Increased LNR from group A to group D
reduced OS from 46 (±44.09) to 22.5 (±16.33) months (P=0.022). According to the multivariate analysis, prognostic
factors in OS were tumor thickness, American joint committee of cancer (AJCC) N stage, interferon administration,
and undergoing chemotherapy. Conclusion: According to the results, LNR could be used as an independent prognostic
factor for estimating the survival of patients with stage III cutaneous melanoma also designing an effective adjuvant
treatment protocol for these patients.- انتشار مقاله: 21-03-1397

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): Malignant melanoma is the most lethal type of skin cancers with unfavorable prognosis. Alpha-MSH peptide analogues have a high affinity for melanocortine-1 (MC1) receptors on melanocytes over
expressing in malignant melanoma cells. Pre-clinical studies have shown promising results for radiolabeled MSH imaging in this malignancy. The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic value of 99mTc-α-MSH
imaging in malignant melanoma.
Methods: Twenty-one patients (13 men) with pathologically confirmed malignant melanoma with or without metastatic distribution were included in this study. 740-1110 MBq 99mTc-α-MSH was injected and whole body scans were performed 20, 120 and 240 minutes post injection and were assessed both qualitatively and semi-quantitatively using target (T) to background (BG) ratio.
Results: The T/BG ratio for the primary tumor bed was 2.51±2.26, 2.56±2.48 and 1.92±1.79 minutes in the whole body scans 20, 120 and 240 minutes post injection, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, negative
and positive predictive values were 75%, 80%, 50% and 92% for primary lesion and 25%, 100%, 68% and 100% for distant metastasis, respectively.
Conclusion: 99mTc-α-MSH is a newly introduced agent for diagnosis of tumoral lesions in malignant melanoma. Our study showed a high sensitivity with this modality in primary lesions as well as lymph node
involvements. However the detection rate was not high in distant metastasis. The preliminary results are promising especially as a new complementary imaging method in management of malignant melanoma.- انتشار مقاله: 07-12-1396
