- چکیده انگلیسی: Arsenic is one of the heavy metals and nearly all its compounds, especially organic compounds, are toxic. The wide spectrum of diseases caused by this element has led to evaluation of the toxicity of different arsenic species and identification of the major natural and anthropogenic pollution sources of it in the nature. Mining activities are among the main sources of anthropogenic pollution of soil and water by arsenic. The purpose of this study was geochemical modeling of different arsenic species in the wastewater of the tailings dam of Mouteh Gold processing plant in Iran to evaluate the effect of pH and temperature on the stability of these components. Modeling was done using MINTEQ software. The results showed that arsenic species at different pH values under study were H3AsO3, H2AsO3- and HAsO32-, and their actual concentration in the plant wastewater were negligible. MINTEQ software introduced H3AsO4, H2AsO4-, HAsO42- and AsO43- as arsenic V species at different pH values, of which HAsO42- and AsO43- were the main components of arsenic in plant wastewater. Given the low toxicity of arsenic V species and their easier elimination relative to arsenic III species, in the current conditions, the plant wastewater is in a good status in terms of arsenic pollution. Also temperature changes have little effect on the concentration of various arsenic species in the wastewater.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Phenanthro[9, 10-d]imidazole derivatives were synthesized with the combinations of phenanthroquinone and benzealdehyde derivatives in the presence of ammonium acetate. The microwave-assisted protocol was investigated under solvent-free condition for 2 min (400 w). The structure of all products was studied by IR and 1HNMR Spectroscopy. Excellent yields, short reaction times, simplicity of operation and easy separation are the advantages of this technique.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background:Punica granatum var. pleniflora (PGP) has been used for thousands of years as an effective agent to treat various types of diseases. However, there are a few new evidences addressing its therapeutic effects and related mechanisms. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects of ethanolic (ET), dichloromethane (DM), and ethyl acetate (EA) extracts of PGP. Methods: ET, DM, and EA extracts of PGP were first prepared using maceration method. Total phenolic content (TPC) of PGP was then assessed by the Folin-Ciocalteu assay, and its antioxidant capacity was determined by DPPH and FRAP methods. Furthermore, in-vitro antibacterial activity of the PGP extracts was performed. The effect of PGP on the viability of J774A.1, HUVECs, HT29, and MCF-7 cell lines was evaluated by the MTT assay. The anti-inflammatory effect of PGP was assessed in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated J774A.1 cell line using qRT-PCR method. Results: EA extract contained the highest phenolic content (383.3 ± 9.1 mg gallic acid/g extract) and showed the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 36.5 ± 2.3 µg/mL). PGP at concentration of 15 µg/mL significantly decreased the expression of COX-2 (ET) and iNOS (ET and EA) in J774A.1 cell. Also, EA showed the highest antibacterial activity. Furthermore, the PGP extracts decreased the viability of all tested cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner. As indicated by IC50, EA demonstrated the lowest IC50 for all tested cell lines. Conclusion: According to the results, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and cytotoxic effects of PGP might be driven by its phenolic compounds highly presented in the EA extract.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The recruitment of medicinal herbs for the treatment of psychological disorders such as anxiety and stress has a long history. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the compensatory effects of hydroalcoholic extract of green tea on anxiety behaviors that are induced by noise stress in male Wistar rats. Methods: In this study, male Wistar rats weighing 200±20 g were randomly divided into six groups (n = 10): 1) control group, 2) sham- noise stress (two times per day and each time for 15 minutes, for 21 days, without noise stress), 3) chronic noise stress (two times per day and each time for 15 minutes, for 21 days, at 87.3 dB(A) and the frequency of 80 kHz), 4) Green tea (50, 100, 150 mg/kg i.p. for three weeks), 5) sham- green tea with saline injection for 21 days, 6) noise stress + green tea extract (50, 100, 150 mg/kg i.p. for three weeks). Their serum cortisol levels was measured by ELISA test before and after the tests. Behavioral tests were performed including elevated plus-maze, territory discrimination, and passive avoidance test. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. Results: Serum corticosterone levels significantly decreased in noise stress groups treated with green tea compared to the control group (P<0.05). Based on the passive avoidance test, the time spent in the dark box showed a significant decrease in the noise stress group treated with green tea (150 mg/kg) compared to the noise stress group. Based on the territory discrimination test, the delay for entering the foreign segment in the green tea treated-groups showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) as compared to the noise stress group. The results of the elevated plus-maze test showed a significant increase in the time spent on the open arms in green tea extract-treated groups in comparison with noise stress group. Conclusion: Findings show the unique properties of green tea extracts in reducing serum corticosterone levels and improvement of anxiety behaviors caused by noise stress in animals. In addition, the useful effects of herbal medicine on anxiety disorders were confirmed in our study.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Sepsis is regarded as a critical clinical status in neonates. Since blood culture is a time-consuming method, the present study was conducted to investigate the serum level of Ferritin, Procalcitonin, and CRP in the peripheral blood of term neonates suspected with sepsis to have a quicker diagnosis for the disease. Methods: In the present cross-sectional study, a total of 60 neonates suspected with sepsis who had been hospitalized in Ali ibn Abi Talib Hospital of Rafsanjan/ Iran in 2015-2016 were randomly selected. Before conducting the treatment processes, blood samples were taken from all neonates and sent for blood culture. The intended markers were measured both before and after the treatments and the results were recorded in special forms for each neonate. Data were analyzed through SPSS20 and using chi-squared test, Paired t-test, and drawing a ROC curve for determining the best cut-off point and measuring the sensitivity and specificity. Results: In this study, 70% of the neonates suspected with sepsis were male, 56.7% were younger than 7 days old and 96.7% had natural weight. The most common symptoms were poor feeding and reduced sucking reflexes. Data analysis of the markers indicate that they reduced significantly after the treatment (p<0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, and the best cut-off point were respectively 64.3%, 43.5%, and 257.8 for Ferritin, 78.6%, 50%, and 23 for Procalcitonin and 85.7%, 65.2%, and 21.5 for CRP. Conclusion: According to the obtained findings, applying these markers can be of a great use in diagnosing neonatal sepsis. However, given the low sensitivity and specificity of Ferritin, Procalcitonin and CRP in the present study, further studies need to be conducted to obtain more definite results.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The aim of this study was to standardize and develop the health utility index III (HUI3); quality of life questionnaire. This study was conducted for the first time in Iran. Method: Forward-backward translation method was applied in order to translate the Canadian version into Persian. The final version was developed after modifications. Double stage cluster sampling and simple random sampling were respectively used for population and patients. A total of 511 healthy people in 15 regions of Esfahan/Iran and 51 patients suffering from cardiovascular disease completed the questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha and interclass correlation coefficient were used for testing the reliability of the questionnaire. Results: The mean age of population was 32.8 ± 11.3 years and the mean age of patients was 48.8 ± 6.2 years. The assessment of Interclass Correlation Coefficient of the tool in patients after two weeks in all eight questions ranged from 0.76 to 1 (ICC=0/91) that shows its high reliability. In addition, the average score in Alfa Cronbach was 0.68. Content validity of the questionnaire was 0.82. Differentiability of the test shows that a higher quality of life can be affected by male gender, higher education, low age, and employment In addition, the utility result of quality of life indicates a significant difference in the quality of life of patients compared with the general population (p = 0.004) Conclusion: The results showed a translated version is valid, reliable and applicable in medical sciences studies and can be used to Persian language.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: There is still no finding available that can show the malignant clinical course in patients with middle cerebral artery stroke. The aim of this study was to compare Doppler ultrasound findings in patients with malignant and non-malignant middle cerebral artery stroke in order to obtain its prognostic value in detecting malignant course.
Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 40 patients with acute ischemic stroke in Shafa University Hospital Kerman, Iran, 2017. All patients were admitted within 24 hours of onset of symptoms, and brain CT-scan was performed to confirm ischemic stroke. If more than 50% of the middle cerebral artery showed signs of hypo density, it was considered massive MCA infarction (MMI), while others were excluded. In the first 24 hours, trans cranial Doppler ultrasound was performed for all patients. Patients were then examined until discharge or death. If the case of fixed unilateral mydriasis in the clinical course or a displacement of more than 5 mm in septum pellucidum in the control CT-scan on days 3 to 7 (depending on the changes in the consciousness level), m-MCAI was diagnosed. Data were analyzed using SPSS.
Result: In the malignant cases, the mean PSV and MFV in MCA in the contralateral side of the lesion were significantly higher than the non-malignant cases. A significant increase in mean PSV and MFV in ACA in the contralateral side of the lesion was found in malignant compared to non-malignant cases (P=0.01). Significant difference was observed in terms of mean RI of ICA of contralateral side of the lesion between malignant and non-malignant cases (P=0.02).
Conclusion: Our study showed increase in PSV and MFV in MCA and ACA in the contralateral side of the lesion in cases that lead to malignancy, which can be helpful in identifying early cases that advance to malignancy.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The purpose of the present study was to investigate correlative and predictive relationship of lower extremity anatomical alignment, isometric hip abduction and external rotation strength with jump-landing biomechanics using Landing Error Scoring System (LESS). Methods: Anatomical alignment and isometric lower extremity muscle strength of 30 active men (mean age of 21.27±2.12 years) have been assessed through goniometry and dynamometry tests, respectively. Then, subjects have performed LESS test for the analysis of their jump-landing biomechanics. Results: There was no significant correlative or predictive relationship between overall LESS score and femoral anteversion angle, tibiofemoral angle, Q angle, navicular drop, tibial torsion, abduction and external rotation isometric strength (P>.05). However, statistically significant negative correlation has been found between knee hyperextension angle and LESS score (P= .01, r= -.4). Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that lower extremity anatomical alignment and isometric strength measurements has no significant relationship with dynamic biomechanics of jump-landing. This is probably due to the difference in nature of static and isometric measurements and dynamic functional movements.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Recently, there has been a great deal of interest in the use of the medicinal plants with high antioxidant compounds for curing liver injuries induced by hepatoxcitic agents. This study was to assess the protective effect of Carum carvi L. essential oil (E.O) on the hepatoxitic rats induced by overdose of iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs). The rats were distributed to 4 groups. In negative control group (NC), the rats received normal saline and DMSO daily for 3 days. In control group (C), iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe2O3) (200 mg/kg b.w) was injected daily for 3 days. In the treatment groups, iron oxide nanoparticles plus E.O at 100 & 200 mg/kg b.w were injected daily for 3 days. In following, cytochrome P450 (CYP450), glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione (GSH), aspartate transaminase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and alanine transaminase (ALT) were estimated at 72 h after NP-treatment. The administration of the E.O could return considerably the decrease of the GST and GSH levels as well as the increase of the level of AST induced by iron oxide NPs. These results are in agreement with histopathological results. The data indicated that E.O provided an efficient prevention against iron oxide NPs-induced hepatotoxicity in rats.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Over loading of iron oxide nanoparticles can causes the liver injury through overproduction of free radicals. Zataria multiflora Boiss. (Lamiaceae) has been used for many years in folk medicine due to its antioxidant and antibacterial activities. This study evaluates -for the first time- the effect of Z. multiflora essential oil (EO) against iron oxide nanoparticles hepatotoxicity in rat model. Male Wistar rats were divided randomly into 4 groups; control group (C), non-treated control group (NT), treatment groups, nanoparticles plus Z. multiflora EO at 100 and 200 mg/kg b.w. In following, the liver and blood tissue were collected for estimating antioxidant / oxidative stress parameters including lipid peroxidation (LP), glutathione (GSH), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and liver enzyme asparate transaminase (AST) and also histopathological examinations. Iron oxide nanoparticles toxicity produced a significant increase in the levels of LP, ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), and AST activity concomitant with decrease in the levels of GSH and GST activity compared to the control group. However, in the treatment groups received Z. multiflora EO, the levels of LP and AST activity reduced together with increasing in GSH content and GST activity were significantly reported. Histopathological studies also supported the biochemical assessments indicating hepatic improvements induced by nanoparticles. Z. multiflora EO protected the liver from injuries induced by iron oxide nanoparticles which can be correlated with its antioxidant activities. This can be a valuable candidate in modulating the oxidative hepatic injuries.
