- چکیده انگلیسی: In this study, molecular characterization of Echinococcus granulosus sample obtained from water buffalo originating from southwest of Iran was performed using comparative sequence analysis of cox1 mitochondrial gene. DNA was extracted from protoscoleces removed from hydatid cyst from the liver of a 2-year-old male buffalo slaughtered in Khuzestan province. Molecular and phylogenetic analyses were conducted based on cox1 mitochondrial gene. We found the presence of a new microvariant of G3 genotype for E. granulosus in Iran which isgenetically differentiated from reference G3 sequence (M84663).The difference was a transition mutation of adenine to guanine in position 214 (A214G) resulting in a substitution of the threonine (ACT) by alanine (GCT). These findings extend the knowledge of heterogeneity and distribution of G3 genotype for E. granulosus in world.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and Objective: Needle stick injuries (NSIs) are a common potential risk for healthcare workers. The aim of this study was to evaluate preventive interventions against needle stick injury incidents among HCWs. Methods: Seven hospitals in the Iranian Chaharmahal-VA-Bakhtiari Province were surveyed between March 2008 to March 2013. Data of the needle stick injuries of healthcare workers was extracted from the hospital documentations. Chi-square test and logistic regression were used for analyzing the data. Findings: A total of 571 exposures (30.9%) to blood and other infected fluids were recorded. Three measures of the preventive interventions against occupational exposures were found to be independently associated with interval reporting time less than 72 hours; a positive history of training courses passed [P=0. 012, OR=0. 440, 95%CI: 0.233-0.832], standard infection control procedures after needle stick injury [P=0. 000, OR=4. 905, 95%CL: 2.777 –8.663], wearing personal protective equipment [P=0. 000, OR=9. 313, 95%CL: 4.142 – 20.940]. Conclusions: Personnel protective equipment, training of employees, and use of standard infection control procedures after NSI incident are both essential and effective in preventing viral transmission of blood-borne diseases among healthcare workers.

Background: Zataria multiflora Boiss is a well-known medicinal plant and its’ essential oil (EO) is traditionally used for treatment of respiratory and digestive disorders and/or bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
Objective: This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of long-term consumption of Z. multiflora EO on hematological and biochemical parameters in patients infected with liver hydatid disease.
Materials and Methods: Fifteen patients were administered orally with Z. multiflora EO (60 mg daily) for six months. Hematological and biochemical analysis were performed on the blood samples of patients before the start of treatment and after completion of the treatment course. In hematological analysis, WBC, RBC, Hb, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC and platelets were measured. In biochemical analysis, FBS, BUN, creatinine, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, Na, K, Cl, AST, ALT, and ALK were assessed.
Results: No apparent changes were observed in the values of hematological parameters of the patients after treatment. No significant changes also occurred in the values of FBS, BUN, creatinine, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, Na, and K. The mean values of AST, ALT and ALK enzymes decreased significantly after treatment (P ˂ 0.05). No adverse clinical event was noticed in the patients during the course of study.
Conclusions: Long-term consumption of Z. multiflora EO induced no adverse effect on the hematological and biochemical parameters of patients infected with liver hydatid disease. Since Z. multiflora EO reduced the level of liver transaminases (AST, ALT and ALK), this herbal product may be considered as a hepatoprotective agent in human beings.- انتشار مقاله: 07-11-1398
