- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Whey protein can improve quality of life and vitamin E can reduce oxidative stress. Due to the reduced quality of life in hemodialysis patients, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of whey beverage fortified with vitamin E on quality of lifein hemodialysis patients. Methods: Ninety two 17 to 65 years old patients who were on hemodialysis were randomly assigned to four groups of (i) 1 receiving whey beverage fortified with vitamin E, (ii) 2 receiving whey beverage, (iii) 3 receiving vitamin E, and (iv) 4 as the control group receiving no intervention. SF-12 questionnaire was used for assessing quality of life in the participants. Results:Bodily pain score improved significantly in group 3 while, a significant decline was seen for bodily pain in control group. An improvement was seen in groups 1 and 2. Physical health showed a significant improvement in group 1. Considering social functioning scores, improvement in whey beverage and vitamin E groups was seen. An improvement of quality of life in whey beverage fortified with vitamin E was noticed. Conclusion: Whey protein and vitamin E were shown to reduce oxidative stress and their effect on neurotransmitters in brain such as serotonin and dopamine leads to improvement in quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Doing longer studies with questionnaires such as SF-36, may help precise investigation of whey protein and vitamin E effects on quality of life of hemodialysis patients.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Adolescents pay more attention to their appearance and body. Irregular nutritional patterns, eating certain types of food, and consuming more protein-containing food are more common in this age group. Considering the importance of this issue and lack of adequate studies in Iran, especially in Fars province, we aimed to assess the relationship between weight-controlling attitudes and eating disorders with dietary intake in female adolescents.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was done on 600 female students aged 14-17 years from the four educational districts of Shiraz, southern Iran, during 2011-2012 using the stratified random sampling method. Data were collected using three questionnaires as follows: demographic data questionnaire, Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) to assess eating attitude disorders in students, and the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 13 and the NUT 4 software.
Results: Six (1%) EAT-26 questionnaire were omitted from analysis for being incomplete. Also, 556, 446, and 491 questionnaires were evaluated in meat, bread, and fat groups, respectively; and the rest were omitted because of not being complete. The mean±SD age of the students was 15.8±0.9 years. According to the EAT-26, we found that 80.1% of the students were at risk of eating attitude disorders (CI=95%, 76.9-83.3). By comparing the results of the FFQ and the EAT-26 and weight controlling behaviors, we found that consumption of meat and fat was significantly higher in students with eating attitude disorder (P=0.027 and P=0.003 respectively). Bread intake was significantly higher in the groups with no disorder (P=0.08). (This P value is not significant.) Moreover, the mean consumption of sandwiches was higher in students with eating attitude disorders (P=0.002).
Conclusion: Considering the high prevalence of eating attitude disorders in our study, assessing the underlying reasons and implementing preventive programs is of utmost importance.- انتشار مقاله: 27-06-1395

Therefore efforts are required to prevent malnutrition and its associated complications. Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the relationship between nutritional status and some socio-economic factors in elementary school children in Shiraz, Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 740 primary school students in Shiraz selected through cluster random sampling. The data consisted of personal characteristics, including demographic features, education grade, height, weight, birth order, number of children in the family, parents’ age, parents’ education levels, parents’ occupation, immigration history, divorce, birth weight, breastfeeding period, birth season, history of obesity in the first degree relative, sleep duration, time spent on watching TV, using computer, and playing video games, eating meal and pre-meal patterns, and economic status. Besides, the students’ Body Mass Indices (BMI, weight (kg)/height × height (m 2)) were measured in order to determine student’s percentiles. Results: The study results revealed that 73 (9.9%), 524 (70.8%), 101 (13.6%), and 42 (5.7%) students were underweight, normal, overweight, and obese, respectively. Among the evaluated factors, only mid-afternoon meal was significantly related to nutritional status. In comparison to having more than two pre-meals a day, not consuming afternoon pre-meal increased the chance of being underweight by about 10.1 folds. Moreover, the chance of being underweight increased in children who did not consume afternoon pre-meal due to less energy intake. Conclusions: This study revealed a high prevalence of malnutrition among the primary school students. Yet, further studies are required to accurately identify the effective factors for prevention and treatment of malnutrition in school age children.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Neural networks can be used in various subjects, such as the discovery of relationships, identification, system modelling, optimization and nonlinear pattern recognition. One of the interesting applications of this algorithm is heat transfer estimation between contacting surfaces. In the current investigation, a comparison study is done for temperature transfer function estimation between contacting surfaces using Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) neural networks and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) algorithm. Different algorithms are trained and tested by means of input–output data set taken from the experimental study and the inverse solution using the Conjugate Gradient Method (CGM) with the adjoint problem. Eventually, the optimal model has been chosen based on the common error criteria of root mean square error. According to the obtained results among different models, ANFIS with gaussmf membership function has the best algorithm for identification of TCC between two contacting surfaces with 0.1283 error. Also, the inverse method has the lowest error for thermal contact conductance estimation between fixed contacting surfaces with root mean square error of 0.211.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this paper, different geometries and arrangements of vortex generators for improving the heat transfer performance of heat sinks have been studied. The effect of different parameters including the inclination angle of vortex generators and the distance between them are also investigated on heat transfer performance of heat sinks. Numerical computations are done based on the finite volume method and they have been validated with available experimental data which were in accurate compatible with each other with RMSE error of less than 6%. According to the obtained outcomes, between rectangular, triangular and symmetrical NACA0012 vortex generator, heat sink with NACA0012 vortex generator has the best thermal performance. On the other hand, heat sink with rectangular vortex generator has the highest fluid flow pressure drop. So, using rectangular vortex generator with heat sink needs a fan with the highest power. Also, the results show that thermal resistance of the heat sink decreases with Reynolds number increase. Also, heat sink pressure drop increases with Re number enhancement. Meanwhile, the pressure drop rate is more sensible in higher Reynolds numbers.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): In patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), sentinel lymph node (SLN) radio-guided biopsy is not routinely used for detection of involved neck lymph nodes (NLN); 99mTc- antimony sulfide colloid (99mTc- ASC) has been used for this purpose. In this study, besides 99mTc-ASC another radiotracer, 99mTc-phytate (99mTc-P) with different doses and injection methods were evaluated.
Methods: Twenty-two patients, scheduled to undergo thyroidectomy for PTC, were injected for radio-guided SLN biopsy in the morning of operation in 3 groups: intra tumoral injection of about 1 mCi 99mTc-P (group A; n=5); peritumoral injection of less than 3 mCi 99mTc-ASC (group B; n=6); and peritumoral injection of 3 to 5 mCi 99mTc-ASC with application of massage (group C; n=9). A patient refused to complete the study. A patient with follicular thyroid cancer was also excluded. No NLN was detected in the pre-operative ultra-sonographic examinations of all patients. Central neck dissection was done for all the participants. The presence of radio guided detected NLN and results of pathology were assessed.
Results: In group A and B, no SLN was detected. NLNs were resected in 4 patients in group A and B; 2 of them involved by the tumor. In group C, 6 out of 9 patients (66.7%) had between 1 to 6 SLNs; the procedure failed to detect NLN in a patient in group C with surgically resected reactive NLN (failure rate 1 out of 7). Conclusion: The results underscored the significance of SLN radio guided biopsy in patients with PTC; the radiotracer, dose and method of injection may affect the detection rate.- انتشار مقاله: 04-05-1399

- چکیده انگلیسی: Rosai Dorfman disease is a rare form of nonlangerhans cell histiocytosis, presenting with extensive lymphadenopathies. Treatment in most cases of nodal disease, involves close observation; however, extranodal involvement requires a more definitive treatment strategy. Herein, we report a case of extensive Rosai Dorfman disease in a 43-year-old woman presenting for evaluation of treatment response by 18F-FDG PET/CT after frequent relapses and disease progression. In addition to extensive lymphadenothapies in cervical, supraclavicular, superior mediastinum, axillary, abdominopelvic and inguinofemoral regions, the patient had metabolically active bone and subcutaneous lesions which were not previously recognized. Following this 18F-FDG PET/CT study, the patient management was changed to sirolimus and prednisolone. To choose the best treatment option for Rosai Dorfman patients, knowledge of the full extent of disease is important. Compared with conventional imaging, 18F-FDG PET/CT has the advantage of being a whole-body imaging modality and can recognize disease involvement prior to any anatomical changes.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death, worldwide. Recently, due to the introduction of novel imaging and therapeutic techniques, five-year survival of patients has increased. However, distant metastasis is still expected in half of the patients. Colorectal cancer tends to target the abdominal cavity, liver, lungs, and bones as the common sites of metastasis. Nevertheless, rare cases of muscle metastasis have been reported. This report presents a 23-year-old male, who despite chemotherapy, demonstrated gradual progressive disease and metastases to the submandibular region, lungs, adrenal gland as well as muscles and subcutaneous tissues. He had developed multiple asymptomatic muscular metastases metachronously over two-year time period discovered on an 18FDGPET/CT, namely in the deltoid, external oblique abdominis, rectus abdominis, and quadriceps muscles, as well as one of the extrinsic muscles of the tongue. The presence of distant, especially extrahepatic metastasis, adversely affects the prognosis of colon carcinoma. Since limited cases of muscle metastasis have been reported in carcinoma of colon, the underlying pathophysiology, optimum treatment, and prognostic issues are yet to be substantiated.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): Malignant melanoma is the most lethal type of skin cancers with unfavorable prognosis. Alpha-MSH peptide analogues have a high affinity for melanocortine-1 (MC1) receptors on melanocytes over
expressing in malignant melanoma cells. Pre-clinical studies have shown promising results for radiolabeled MSH imaging in this malignancy. The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic value of 99mTc-α-MSH
imaging in malignant melanoma.
Methods: Twenty-one patients (13 men) with pathologically confirmed malignant melanoma with or without metastatic distribution were included in this study. 740-1110 MBq 99mTc-α-MSH was injected and whole body scans were performed 20, 120 and 240 minutes post injection and were assessed both qualitatively and semi-quantitatively using target (T) to background (BG) ratio.
Results: The T/BG ratio for the primary tumor bed was 2.51±2.26, 2.56±2.48 and 1.92±1.79 minutes in the whole body scans 20, 120 and 240 minutes post injection, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, negative
and positive predictive values were 75%, 80%, 50% and 92% for primary lesion and 25%, 100%, 68% and 100% for distant metastasis, respectively.
Conclusion: 99mTc-α-MSH is a newly introduced agent for diagnosis of tumoral lesions in malignant melanoma. Our study showed a high sensitivity with this modality in primary lesions as well as lymph node
involvements. However the detection rate was not high in distant metastasis. The preliminary results are promising especially as a new complementary imaging method in management of malignant melanoma.- انتشار مقاله: 07-12-1396
