- چکیده انگلیسی: The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the pharmacognostic properties of Citrus aurantium seeds as well as its anti-inflammatory activities. The n-hexane fraction of seed oil extracted via a Soxhlet extractor and subjected to pharmacognostic assays, HPTLC and GC-MS analysis for determination of fatty acids and sterols. The possible anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities in rats were evaluated using formalin-induced paw licking, oedema and myeloperoxidase activity assessment. Total ash, acid insoluble and water soluble ash values were determined as 35.83 ± 4.92, 6.67 ± 2.89 and 28.33 ± 5.77 mg/g, respectively. HPTLC assessment revealed the presence of different fatty acids and steroidal triterpenes. The principal fatty acids of the seed oil were linoleic acid (C18:2, 50.10 ± 2.58 %) and Oleic acid (C18:1, 30.14 ± 0.39). Esterified (2.40 mg/g) and free β-sitosterol (32.90 mg/g), free campesterol (3.9 mg/g) and free stigmasterol (10.165 mg/g) were detected in the oil. Seed oil exhibited anti-inflammatory properties in the first and the second phases of formalin test. Also, it had anti-edematogenic effects but exerted no effects on myeloperoxidase activity.

- چکیده انگلیسی: With respect to the importance and high consumption of this drink, assessment of various brands and populations are needed to reach to high quality samples. Low-quality or fake samples may cause many unwanted effects. Therefore, comparative study of various samples will be beneficial to select a high quality sample. This study aimed to assess evaluate the quality of fourteen green tea samples based on microscopic characterization and pharmacognostical properties. Fourteen green tea samples were purchased from markets (Iran), both internal and external brands. Also a sample was collected from Lahijan (North of Iran) as a control. The methanol extracts of all samples were subjected to microscopic characterization as well as determination of total phenol and flavonoid content using current related methods. In addition, thin layer chromatography (TLC) fingerprint was performed on all respected extracts using HPTLC technique. Microscopic characterization showed calcium oxalate crystal, trichomes, idioblasts, stroma in high quality samples. Total phenol content of Chinese teabag methanol extract was at highest (288.4±12.03 mg GAE/g extract) and the lowest phenol content was related to the Chinese bulk sample (144.76±4.32 mg GAE/g extract). On the other hand, highest and lowest flavonoid content was found in Pakistan (19.77±0.68 mg QE/ g extract) and Lahijan (4.5±0.02 mg QE/ g extract) bulk samples, respectively. TLC chromatogram fingerprint indicated the presence of phenolic compounds with related intensity. Current study represented that these assessments are well functional and beneficial to be consider for the screening and quality control evaluation of various tea samples from different origins.

- چکیده انگلیسی: As a physiologic process, reflux commonly occurred following a daily meal with no sign. Heartburn in Traditional Persian Medicine (TPM) has been defined as “Harghat-e-me’adeh” or “Josha-e-hāmez”. Regarding the clinical importance of this complication, in current work a related traditional formulation containing True cardamom, Ginger, Black cumin and Mastic, selected from various related traditional formulations which have been extracted from three main Qarabadin textbooks of Persian medicine. Following content authentication and microscopic characterization, various tablet formulations were prepared using excipients. The final formulation was a tablet containing those ingredients in 28% for each, with avicel (9/8%) and Magnesium stearate (0.2%) as a binder, respectively. Chemical composition analysis was carried out using Gas Chromatography/ Mass spectrometry apparatus (GC/MS). α-terpinyl acetate (34.02%), 1,8- cineole (18.07), cumin-aldehyde (8.15), and γ-terpinene (11.74%) were identified as major constituents. The content determination of the tablet was performed via Gas Chromatography/ Flame ionization detector (GC/FID). The fingerprint obtained from IR Spectroscopy. Data on pharmaceutical assessment were included friability (less than 1%), weight variation (less than 1%), hardness (6.5±0.5 kg/cm2), disintegration time (less than 35 min) and thickness (3.02±.04 mm). The yield of essential oil extracted from the tablet was found 3%, and each tablet contained 1.33 mg γ-terpinene. This finished product can be introduced as medicine for clinical trial and pharmaceutical industry.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Herbal medicinal oils and hydrosols are of most useful preparations in folk Persian medicine. Till now no comprehensive evaluation has been performed on the impact of simultaneous extraction or mixing the extracted products on chemical composition profile of those preparations. Current study chemically assesses the impact of two different extraction methods for essential oils (EO) and hydrosols (separated and mixed) on chemical composition and activity. Samples of Mentha spicata L. (MS), Zataria multiflora Boiss. (ZM), Bunium persicum (Boiss.) B.Fedtsch. (BP) and Trachyspermum ammi (L.) Sprague (TA) were subjected to hydrodistillation, either individually or in combination with each other. Hydrosols and EO samples of each plant were mixed to prepared new hydrosol and poly-EO samples mixtures. All samples were injected to GC/MS for analysis. Moreover, anti-microbial activity of EOs and hydrosols were measured by MIC method. ATR-IR spectroscopies were used for recorded finger print from EOs. Carvone, Thymol, Cuminic aldehyde, Thymol were identified as the major constituents of MS, ZM, BP, TA EO samples, respectively. Hydrosol of MS, ZM, BP, and TA revealed to have Piperitenone, Carvacrol, Cuminol and Thymol as main components, respectively. The mixed oil samples, from first part had γ-Terpinene and Carvacrol as major components and hydrosol samples had Thymol as major component, respectively. In mixed oils and hydrosols the major components were γ-Terpinene and Thymol in respective order. This study showed that there were differences between main components, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant and ATR-IR spectroscopy of mixed samples in both preparation methods.

- چکیده انگلیسی: The xenobiotics-induced liver injury is a major clinical complication. Hence, finding hepatoprotective agents could have clinical value. Herbal medicines are a major source of biologically active chemicals which could be applied as hepatoprotective agents. The current study was designed to assess the hepatoprotective properties of Avicennia Marina (AM) extract and its different fractions. In vivo, the hepatoprotective effect of AM total extract against CCl4-induced acute liver injury was evaluated in rats, and a series of histopathological, biochemical, and oxidative stress parameters were monitored. In vitro, the protective effect of AM extract fractions (Petroleum ether, Chloroform, Ethyl acetate, and Ethanol) was evaluated on human liver hepatoma cells (HepG2). Severe elevation in serum level of liver injury biomarkers, along with liver tissue histopathological changes, lipid peroxidation, and liver tissue glutathione depletion were detected in CCl4-treated rats. On the other hand, CCl4-induced toxicity was evident in vitro by significant cell death. It was found that AM extract provided significant protection against CCL4 toxicity in vivo by decreasing serum biomarkers of liver injury and tissue markers of oxidative stress. In vitro, the protective effect of AM extract fractions (Chloroform, Ethyl acetate, and Ethanol) was evident as these fractions significantly decreased CCl4 cytotoxicity. As AM extract exhibited significant suppression of oxidative stress markers, its antioxidant effect could play a significant role in its hepatoprotective properties.

- چکیده انگلیسی: True myrrh is produced by wounding the plant Commiphora myrrha (Nees) Engl. A number of oleo-gum-resins are produced from various species of Commiphora. Many of these gummy substances resemble myrrh; and sometimes are used as an adulteration of Myrrh. Generally, a complicating factor in the study and use of myrrh is the fact that most samples are obtained from the market where the plant source cannot be identified and there is often adulteration in the commercial myrrh. Myrrh oleo-gum-resin is composed of about 2-8% yellow or yellowish green, rather thick essential oil. Current study analyzed the chemical composition of six myrrh samples from Tehran and Fars (Shiraz and Larestan) in Iran as well as United Arab Emirates. The essential oil samples were yielded and subjected to Gas chromatography/ Mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) to analyze the constituents. Although there was a considerable difference in yields of essential oil extracted from studied gums, all samples represented Furanoeudesma-1, 3-diene as major constituent which was in line with previous studies. In addition, Curzerene and Lindestrene were also revealed as other main ingredients.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Commiphora mukul (Hook. ex Stocks) Engl. (from the family Burseraceae) is well known the clinical applications of related gummy compositions. The gum possesses many pharmacological activities such as antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities. To outline a frame from chemical compositions of this medicament, current study has evaluated the essential oil extracted from different C. mukul gum samples found in medicinal plants markets in Iran. Five different Samples were purchased from medicinal plants market in Shiraz and were coarsely milled and subjected to a Clevenger-based hydrodistillation. Subsequently GC/MS analysis was performed for each sample by means of a gas chromatograph (Agilent Technologies 7890) coupled with a mass detector (Agilent Technologies model 5975C). Identification of the constituents was performed based on a comparison of their mass spectra with Willey (nl7) and Adams libraries spectra, as well as with those reported in literatures. The yield of extracted colorless but turbid essential oil from those samples was calculated at the range of 0.5-1% (V/W). Totally, 41 different components were identified for those collected samples. Major constituent (more than 5%) found in all samples was Alpha-Cadinol (7.25-14.49%). Results of the current procedure can be considered as a reference for the analysis and control of different C. mukul samples from markets.
