- چکیده انگلیسی: In a systematic effort to identify a potent antiproliferative agent, four complexes of vanadium containing maltol and deferiprone ligands were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against five human and animal cancer cell lines, including human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), human cervix epithelial carcinoma (HeLa), human colon cancer cell line (HT-29), human leukemia cell line (K-562), and mouse neuroblastoma cell line (Neuro-2a) using cisplatin as a comparative standard by the MTT assay. The results revealed that the vanadium complexes induce apoptosis in cancer cell lines. The flow cytometry results confirmed that complex 4 exhibits a high population of apoptotic cells (65.8%) and 2-fold higher than cisplatin (32.1%) at the same concentration and induces apoptosis of K-562 cancer cells.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Primary dysmenorrhea is a common problem among women, resulting in a decline in their performance level and quality of life. Previous studies have not indicated a definite relationship between body mass index (BMI) and dysmenorrhea. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the severity of dysmenorrhea and investigate its relationship with BMI among female adolescents in Hamadan, Iran.
Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted on 579 single, female adolescents in schools of Hamadan, Iran in 2011. Students with primary dysmenorrhea (without any other conditions) were selected, using random cluster sampling. Demographic characteristics and menstrual cycle information were collected, using two separate questionnaires. BMI was recorded in all participants and visual analogue scale was applied for pain assessment. Chi-square, t-test, Fisher's exact test and logistic regression were used to examine the relationship between variables. Data were analyzed, using SPSS version 16. P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean age, BMI and age at menarche in participants were 15.94±1.17 years, 21.16±3.36 kg/m2 and 12.92± 1.05 years, respectively. The frequency of dysmenorrhea was estimated to be 85.31%. The frequency and severity of dysmenorrhea was higher in the normal-weight group than other subjects. No relationship was seen between the severity and duration of dysmenorrhea with BMI. But dysmenorrhea had a significant relationship with age at menarche and premenstrual syndrome (p <0.05).
Conclusion: In this study, dysmenorrhea was highly prevalent among female adolescents. However, there was no significant association between BMI and dysmenorrhea. We recommend that future studies consider the confounding factors. Also, further research is required to find the relationship between the amount of body fat and dysmenorrhea.- انتشار مقاله: 29-04-1394

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease which is characterized by B-cell abnormality and auto-antibody generation. Since bacterial infections are the most important causes of mortality in these patients, pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for children with SLE.
Objective: To investigate humoral immunity and specific-antibody formation in response to a 23-valent polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccination in SLE children and asthmatic control group.
Method: The case and control groups consisted of 30 children with the mean age of 13 years who were matched by sex and age. Anti-pneumococcal antibody titers were determined using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) before the vaccination with the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine and 3 weeks later in both groups. Also the correlation between anti-pneumococcal antibody titer and different factors including age, sex, lupus activity, disease duration, medications, history of recurrent infections, and laboratory data were investigated.
Results: Both groups showed significant increases in anti-pneumococcal antibody level after vaccination (p≤0.001). The increase in antibody level were almost the same in both groups (p≥0.05) such that 77.7% of SLE children and 86.2% of control children showed at least 2-fold increase in anti-pneumococcal antibody titer following immunization. Significant correlations were seen between the level of post-immunization anti-pneumococcal antibody with the age of children with SLE (p=0.02) and their age of disease onset (p=0.02).
Conclusion: It is concluded that pneumococcal vaccination is generally immunogenic in children with SLE. However, a small group of patients show impaired response to the vaccine.- انتشار مقاله: 06-07-1395

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: IL-17 is a major cytokine player in T cell mediated leukocyte associated inflammation. IL-17 is also recognized to participate in the pathophysiology of asthma.
Objective: To determine the role of IL-17 in predicting severe asthma.
Methods: We obtained serum samples from asthmatic children under the age of 5-year in three different groups of mild (n=33), moderate (n=28) and severe (n=32) persistent asthma. IL-17 serum concentrations and mRNA expression were determined by ELISA and real time PCR assays, respectively.
Results: Serum IL-17 concentrations were significantly higher in patients with severe asthma than the other two groups of children with mild and moderate disease (p=0.00). Mean serum IL-17 values were 142.04 pg/ml in mild group, 180.4 pg/ml in moderate group and 251.25 pg/ml in severe group. IL-17 mRNA levels were also significantly elevated in severe asthmatic patients compared to mild and moderate asthmatic children (p=0.00).
Conclusion: Our data reveal an increase in the serum IL-17 concentrations and IL-17 mRNA expressions in children with severe asthma compared to those with mild and moderate forms of the disease.- انتشار مقاله: 15-05-1395

Methods: This experiment was conducted as factorial based on completely randomized design with four replicates in agronomy and plant breeding laboratory, Agricultural department, Islamic Azad University, Varamin-Pishva Branch in spring of 2014. First factor was four levels of salinity including S1: 3.87, S2: 5.95, S3: 10.25 and S4: 12.87 ds/m and the second factor was three levels of poly amines including H0: control (not application of poly amines), H1: Putrescine 2.5 m/mol and H2: Sprimidin 5 mmol/L. coleoptile and cleorhiza length, cleorhiza number, coleoptile, cleorhiza and seedling dry weight, Tissue water content (TWC), germination percent and number of damaged seeds were measured. Results: Analysis of variance showed that coleoptile and cleorhiza length, cleorhiza dry weight affected by salinity and hormone levels at 1% of probability level. There was no significant difference among other treatments for other properties. Results of this experiment indicated that following increasing salinity, sever reduction in germination-dependent properties were observed.

Methods: The experiment was carried out as factorial based on completely randomized design with four replicates in laboratory of Agronomy and Plant Breeding, department of agriculture in Islamic Azad University, Varamin-Pishva branch in 2014. The first factor was four levels of salinity including S1: 3.78, S2: 5.95, S3: 10.25 and S4: 12.87 ds/m, the second factor was three cultivar of spring wheat including V1: Tajan, V2: Arg and V3: Pishtaz. The third factor was six level of hormone including H0: control, H1: GA3 150 mg/L, H2: Kentin 150 mg/L, H3: GA3 150 mg/L + Kentin 150 mg/L, H4: Putrescine 2.5 mmol/L, H5: GA3 150 mg/L + Kentin 150 mg/L + Putrescine 2.5 mmol/L. Coleoptile and Cleorhiza length, Cleorhiza number, Coleoptile, Cleorhiza and Seedling Dry Weight, Tissue Water Content (TWC), Germination Percent and Number of Damaged Seeds were measured. Results: Analysis of variance showed that Coleoptile and cleorhiza length, cleorhiza number, seedling dry weight and TWC affected by salinity, hormone and Cultivar at 1% of probability level, but not significant in other properties. In general, results of this experiment showed that application of different treatments of hormone and poly amine had no significant effect on reduction of salinity effect in germination process.

Methods: The experiment was carried out as factorial based on completely randomized design with four replicates in laboratory of agronomy and plant breeding of agricultural department, Islamic Azad University, Varamin-Pishva Branch in 2014. The first factor was salinity with four levels (S1:3.78, S2: 5.95, S3: 10.25 and S4: 12.87 ds/m) and the second factor was six level of hormones including H0: control, H1:GA3 (100mg/litr)، H2:GA3 (150mg/litr)، H3:GA3 (200mg/litr)، H4: Putrescine (2.5m/mol)، H5: Spermidine (5m/mol) and H6: GA3(100mg/litr) + Spermidine (5m/mol). coleoptile and cleorhiza length, cleorhiza number, coleoptile and cleorhiza dry weight, germination percent and number of damaged seeds were measured. Results: Analysis of variance showed significant difference among salinity and hormone levels for coleoptile and cleorhiza length, cleorhiza number at 1% of probability level and no difference for the rest properties. It was concluded that following increasing salinity, application of different levels of GA3 had no significant effect on germination process of Pishtaz cultivar.
