- چکیده انگلیسی: In this study, we compared the effects of Calendula and Alpha ointment in the treatment of burn wounds and compare its results with silver sulfadiazine (SSD). Seventy-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups, and similar burn ulcers were produced on anterior surface of thigh of rats. The first group of rats no treatment was applied, base gel was applied topically to group II, in groups III-V, Alpha, SSD and Calendula preparations were applied, respectively.
Wound healing, contraction and histopathological evaluation were evaluated at the end of 7, 14, and 21 days.
Alpha ointment was equally effective as Calendula gel, and had better efficacy compared to SSD for all markers of wound healing at days of 7, 14 and 21.
Alpha and Calendula preparations are less expensive drugs and significantly improve the quality of wound healing and scar formation and are more appropriate treatment choices than SSD.
Therefore, we recommend them as alternative to SSD, especially in patients with low economical backgrounds or in those who show adverse reactions to SSD.- انتشار مقاله: 29-04-1395

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and Objective: Identification of cytogenetic and molecular changes plays an important role in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Thus, they are used in classification, prognosis and treatment of the disease. The CD123 expression and FLT3 gene mutations are also the variations that may assist in prognosis and treatment of patients with AML.
Methods: This study was performed on 76 patients as new cases of AML. The correlation between CD123 immunohistochemical (IHC) expression and FLT3 gene mutations with each other as well as morphological, immunophenotypical and cytogenetic factors was studied.
Results: The results represented the CD123 IHC expression in 55.3% and FLT3 gene mutations in 28.9% of cases. We found that 81.3% of patients who had FLT3/ITD gene mutations revealed IHC of CD123 expression (P=0.019). The CD123 expression against FLT3 was also correlated with monocytic differentiation in bone marrow blasts (P=0.031). There were significant correlations between IHC expression of CD123 and FLT3/ITD mutations with a high percentage of aspirated bone marrow blasts (P=0.01 and P=0.006, respectively) as well as the lack of CD34 expression in bone marrow blasts (P=0.007 and P=0.021, respectively).
Conclusion: The CD123 IHC positive AMLs were correlated with certain pathologic features, some of which can be similar with correlations of background mutation of FLT3/ITD; According to the negative predictive value (NPV), 88.2% of CD123 IHC showed FLT3 gene mutation. In addition to its use in targeted therapy, it could be a marker to decide what molecular tests to use in the next steps.- انتشار مقاله: 29-03-1396

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The use of amide-based local anesthetics is generally considered to be safe. However, the literature on their safety in patients with hepatic injury is scarce. For the first time, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect and safety of five commonly used amide-based local anesthetics in the setting of hepatic failure.
Methods: A total of 96 Sprague-Dawley rats were studied from September 2015 to September 2016 in the Animal Laboratory Center, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran. They divided into three groups, namely a control, induced liver failure (LF), and non-LF groups. The rats were administered local anesthetic agents (lidocaine, prilocaine with felypressin, lidocaine with epinephrine, mepivacaine, articaine, and prilocaine). The effect of these drugs was evaluated by comparing the liver enzyme levels of the rats. The data were analyzed using SPSS software. The independent t test, one-way ANOVA, and the post hoc tests were used to compare groups. A p Results: In non-LF rats, mepivacaine, lidocaine, and lidocaine with epinephrine caused a significant increase in aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level compared with the effect of prilocaine with felypressin and articaine. In non-LF rats, only mepivacaine resulted in a significant increase in AST level compared with lidocaine (P=0.007) and prilocaine with felypressin (P=0.044). In this group, only mepivacaine caused a significant increase in alanine transaminase (ALT) level compared with lidocaine (P=0.016). Whereas in the LF group, mepivacaine caused an increase in ALT level compared with the effect of both prilocaine with felypressin (P=0.009) and articaine (p <0.001). The use of mepivacaine in the LF group caused a significant increase in gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase level compared prilocaine with felypressin (P=0.039).
Conclusion: Articaine and prilocaine with felypressin local anesthetics induced the least change in hepatic enzyme levels in rats with abnormal hepatic function.- انتشار مقاله: 21-07-1397

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory disease with indefinite treatment. The present study aimed to assess the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of Carum copticum L. (CC) extract on induced colitis in rats.
Methods: Sixty male rats were randomly divided into six groups (n=10 per group). Acetic acid-induced colitis rats were orally administered with doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg CC extract, and 100 mg/kg sulfasalazine for seven consecutive days, respectively. Colonic biopsies were taken to measure histopathological parameters as well as the tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), myeloperoxidase (MPO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and glutathione (GSH). Data analysis was performed using the one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test for normally distributed data. Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Dunn’s test was used for non-normally distributed data. The analysis was performed at P≤0.05 using SigmaStat software (version 10.0).
Results: The control colitis group had a significantly higher total colitis index (P=0.01), TNF-α (P=0.01), IL-6 (P=0.01), MPO (P=0.01), and MDA (P=0.01); and lower GSH (P=0.01) than those of the sham group. The colitis group receiving a dose of 200 mg/kg/day CC extract had a significantly lower total colitis index (P=0.01), TNF-α (P=0.01), IL-6 (P=0.01), MPO (P=0.01), and MDA (P=0.01); and higher GSH (P=0.01) than those of the control colitis group. The colitis group receiving a dose of 200 mg/kg/day CC extract had a significantly lower total colitis index (P=0.04), TNF-α (P=0.03), IL-6 (P=0.04), MPO (P=0.03), and MDA (P=0.03); and higher GSH (P=0.01) than those of the colitis group receiving sulfasalazine.
Conclusion: The present study revealed that CC extract had healing effects on colitis, possibly due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.- انتشار مقاله: 29-07-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematodermic myeloid malignancy that is known to be derived from plasmacytoid dendritic cells which are characterized by expression of CD4, CD56, and more specific markers such as CD123. Here, the authors present three cases of BPDCN diagnosed in the past two years and address different available diagnostic modalities such as morphology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and cytogenetics. Overall, we believe that although BPDCN is a rare diagnosis, it should not be left unchecked. Currently, available immunophenotyping markers are of great help, but the main clue to figure out the problem of BPDCN is clinicopathologic suspicion.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Perianal fistula is a complicated disorder and most difficult to manage. New treatment methods would help surgeons to achieve a better outcome in patients with perianal fistula. Human amniotic membrane (HAM) has positive effects on wound healing in several conditions. The present study aimed to further determine the effect of HAM on wound healing of perianal fistula in rabbits. Methods: In a prospective experimental study, 14 male rabbits (aged 4-6 months and weighing 3-4 kg) were randomly divided into 2 groups. After 12 weeks, the high type perianal fistula was repaired with endorectal flap (ERF) and ERF plus HAM in the control and case groups, respectively. In all rabbits of the case group, a 1×1 cm width wrap of HAM was applied and fixed around the ERF site. Three weeks later, the repaired site of the perianal fistula was sent for pathologic wound healing scoring. The results were analyzed with the SPSS 21.0 software using Mann-Whitney test. Results: Six rabbits of each group survived the study period. There was a statistically significant difference in wound healing between the case and control groups (P<0.001). Wound healing process in the case group occurred better and faster than the control group. Conclusion: HAM has an effective role in enhancing the ERF procedure and considered appropriate. A combination of HAM with other methods is recommended.
