- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction:
Medication administration error is the most common type of error in the field of medicine which is a risk factor for neonatal safety. These errors should be reported in order to prevent or mitigate their occurrence. In this regard, the present study aimed to determine the barriers of reporting medication administration errors from the point of view of nurses in neonatal and neonatal intensive care units.
Materials and Methods:
This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 157 nurses who were selected using the census sampling method. The participants were nurses of neonatal and neonatal intensive care units in the hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. Moreover, the required data were collected using the second part of the Medication Administration Error Reporting Survey whose psychometric properties (content validity, face validity, construct validity, and reliability) were determined beforehand.
Results:
Results of factor analysis indicated the fitness of the data of the Persian version of the scale with 16 items and four factors. Based on the findings, from the point of view of nurses, “fear” and “administrative response” were the most important barriers to reporting errors, in that order. The most and least common fears of nurses were the fear of negative perceptions and complaints of the family of patients (4.95±1.28) and the fear of reprimand by physicians (3.22±1.43), respectively. Moreover, the most important barrier in reporting the errors concerning the administrative response was the lack of positive feedback regarding the correct medication administration (4.22±1.62).
Conclusion:
According to the results, it can be concluded that from the viewpoint of nurses, fear and administrative response are barriers to reporting medication administration errors.- انتشار مقاله: 04-04-1399

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: This study aimed to identify the most important obstacles to proper interaction of parents with their neonates who were hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 90 NICU nurses and 400 female and male parents using census and convenience sampling methods. To collect data, in a period of three months, a researcher-made questionnaire was prepared, including the factors threatening the parents' interaction with their neonates in NICUs. Data analysis was performed using the descriptive statistics including the number, percentage and mean scores of responses in SPSS software (version 16).
Results: By calculating the mean scores of responses, from the nurses' points of view, "feeling of emotional discomfort due to being away from the neonate" (3.63) and "nurses’ not understanding parents since they have no children" (1.42) were the most and the least important factors, respectively. From the mothers' points of view, "parental stress due to the neonate’s hospitalization" (3.47), and "the maternity wards being away from NICUs" (1.37) were the most and the least important factors, respectively. Also, the most and the least important obstacles in the perspectives of the fathers were "parental stress due to the neonate’s hospitalization" (3.09) and "the unwanted neonate", respectively.
Conclusion: The results showed that the stress and tension of parents were the most influencing factor on the interaction of neonate-parent in NICUs. Some neonatal and organizational factors were considered less important as the barriers to neonate-parent interactions in these wards.- انتشار مقاله: 03-01-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Parents tend to experience considerable amounts of anxiety before their children undergo open heart surgery and this anxiety leads to numerous negative outcomes for both the children and the parents. This study was conducted to assess the effects of taking a hospital tour on preoperative anxiety in the mothers of children undergoing open heart surgery.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study was carried out on the mothers of toddlers who were open heart surgery candidates at Shahid Modarres Hospital in Iran. Ninety-six mothers were assigned to three groups using simple randomization. The oral instruction group (N=32) attended two oral instruction sessions; the hospital tour group (N=32) participated in tours of the operation room and intensive care unit; the control group (N=32) was prepared according to the ward’s routine. Preoperative anxiety was evaluated using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) and the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Data were analyzed in SPSS-20.
Results: The results showed that the mothers’ anxiety about surgery (F=30.99, P≤0.001) and their scores of state anxiety (F=6.02, P<0.001) differed significantly between the three groups after the intervention. A significant difference was observed between the oral instruction and control groups (P<0.001) and the hospital tour and control groups (P<0.001) regarding the surgery-related anxiety scores. A significant difference was also observed between the oral instruction and control groups (P=0.002) regarding the mothers’ state anxiety scores.
Conclusions: Preparing mothers by oral instructions is more effective in reducing surgery-related anxiety and state anxiety before toddlers’ open heart surgery.- انتشار مقاله: 07-05-1398

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Breast Cancer is highly prevalent among women. The supportive care needs of such patients not only affect their quality of life (QoL) but also that of their family caregivers. The present study aimed to assess the correlation between the supportive care needs of women with breast cancer and the QoL of their family caregivers.
Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2017 to June 2018. The
target populations were breast cancer patients (N=150) and their primary family caregivers (N=150) who attended the Omid Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Center affiliated with Hormozgan University of
Medical Sciences, Bandar Abbas, Iran. Data collection tools included a demographic information form, the Supportive Care Needs Survey-Short Form 34, and the Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 22.0) with descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation
coefficient. PResults: The mean age of the patients was 45.76±10.44 years. Of the family caregivers, 99 (66%) were the patients ’spouses. Of the different dimensions of the supportive care needs, the score for the physical needs (40.60±23.50) was the highest. In terms of the QoL of the family caregivers, mental and emotional burden scored the highest (20.19±7.38). There was a significant correlation between the caregivers’ mental and emotional burden and the physical needs of the patients (r=0.19, P=0.02).
Conclusion: The result of the present study showed that physical needs were the most common supportive care needs of patients with breast cancer. Such needs also significantly undermined the QoL of the caregivers in terms of emotional burden and financial concerns.- انتشار مقاله: 06-07-1398

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background
Developmental disorders are important in children, but there is not enough information regarding risk factors, and their effects on developmental disorders. We aimed to design a relational model and assess the relationship of mothers’ spiritual, social, and mental health and self-efficacy with child development.
Materials and Methods: The present analytical cross-sectional study enrolled 285 mothers with 18-month-old children through multistage sampling in health centers in Tehran, Iran. Mothers completed the following questionnaires in four months to collect the data: a demographic questionnaire, Paloutzian and Ellison’s Spiritual Health Scale, Keyes’ Social Health Scale, Goldberg’s mental health scale, Sherer’s Self-Efficacy Scale (SES), and the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ).The data and theoretical Path Model were analyzed using SPSS software version 19.0 and LISREL software version 8.8.
Results: Developmental delay was observed in 21.8% (n=62) of children. Maternal spiritual health, both directly (β=0.35), and indirectly, had an increasing and positive effect on the children’s development through increasing social health, increasing self-efficacy and decreasing mental health score (β=0.206). Maternal social health, both directly (β=0.16), and indirectly, had an increasing and positive effect on the children’s development through increasing self-efficacy (β=0.0465). Maternal mental health had a direct and decreasing effect on the children’s development (β= -0.14), but mother’s self-efficacy had a direct and increasing effect on the children’s development (β= 0.31. The final path model was well-fitted (RMSEA=0.025, GFI=1, NFI=1).
Conclusion
Considering the results and the impact of factors such as spiritual, mental health, social health and self-efficacy on one another and the developmental delay in children, it appears necessary to screen for these factors for early diagnosis and intervention.- انتشار مقاله: 25-03-1399
