- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Traditionally, the residents ‘competencies such as professionalism, interpersonal and communication skill have been assessed merely based on their faculty’ point of view without feedback. These assessments were neither efficiently, nor sufficiently cover the multi aspects` of residents ‘competencies. These multi aspects competences mandate the need for more all-around evaluations such as 360° degree. The purpose of the present study was to apply the 360° multisource feedback model for assessing the surgery residents` competencies of Shiraz university of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This cross sectional study was performed on 48 residents of the second and third year who were working in the surgery departments. The data were gathered using translated questioners on a 5-point likert scale and distributed to 3 raters (nurses, faculty members and peers). The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were approved by some experts. The data was analyzed by Pearson correlation Coefficient, General Linear Model, T- test and SPSS (17) software.
Results: The Internal Consistency reliabilities were up to 80% for all questionnaire. The Pearson correlation co-efficient was significant between the scores given by faculty members and peers (r=0.3, p=0.01). The highest mean score given by the evaluators to residents belonged to the Coworker group (149.6, ±17.23). The third-year residents gave themselves significantly higher scores in comparison with the second year residents (P value=0.01).
Conclusions: High Cronbach’s α demonstrates that the translated questioners were reliable. It seems that based on the valid and reliable results of this study, the 360° multisource feedback model is a good frame work for surgery resident’s assessment in Iran.- انتشار مقاله: 20-09-1395

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Study habits and skills are very important particularly in medical school which is characterized by heavy workload, heavy time commitments, and high stakes assessments. Students’ approach to learning, which includes study habits, has an important impact on both the excellence of the learning and their academic success. The aim of this study was to evaluate the study habits of Shiraz medical students. Methods: In this descriptive cross sectional study Persian version of Approaches to Study Skills Inventory for Students (ASSIST) was distributed randomly among 265 Shiraz medical students in May 2010. Total completed questionnaires were 193 (72.83%). data was analyzed using SPSS 18. Results: The results showed that most of the students use deep approach towards their studies (89.4%) and some use strategic approach (72.7%) but score was relatively low for surface approach (69.8%). There was no statistic relationship between gender and deep or surface approach that they adopted but there was statistically positive relationship between gender and strategic approach that they adopted with males good in adopting strategic approach. No statistical relationship was detected between educational level and deep approach but analysis detected a statistically positive relationship between the level of education and both surface and strategic approaches. Non clinical students adopted strategic approach whereas clinical students adopted surface approach towards their studies. No relationship was detected between place of living and approaches that they adopted. Conclusions: Our finding suggests that there is an overlap correlation between learning approaches adopted by students in different situations. Moreover the finding showed that with increase in educational level there is a trend toward surface approach. Therefore, the adoption of factors which foster deep approaches and activities which increase students' interest should be strongly emphasized.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Evaluation of nurse-patient communication skills have been strongly emphasized in order to ensure the possibility of effective communication as well as assessment of the effect of communication skills training programs. Reaching this goal requires the use of standard instruments which is based on the native culture of the target group. Due to the absence of native instruments in this field, the aim of this study was to design and assess the validity and reliability of interpersonal communication skills, among nurses at Shiraz Educational Hospitals.Method: A mixed method (Qualitative, Quantitative) was used in two phases. The first phase was designing a descriptive questionnaire for nurse-patient communication skills (consisting of “brain storming” and “Delphi quantitative Research Method”). The next phase was defining the validity and reliability of the questionnaire based on confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha. The target population for the first phase was 15 faculty members of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences and for the second phase, 130 members of nursing staff of both educational and private hospitals of Shiraz. The data were analyzed using SPSS 14 and LISREL software after fulfilling the questionnaires. Results: The findings of the study demonstrated the reliability of the nurse-patient communication skills questionnaires (α=0.810). Except for question No. 17, the others had a significant relationship with the agent based on their validity and T-value.Conclusion: Like other clinical skills, communication requires the theoretical knowledge, evaluation and practice. The findings of this study are the most important indicators from the nurses’ view point which can be assessed in terms of communication skills. These options, as demonstrated, had an acceptable reliability and validity. Keywords: Communication skills, Questionnaire, Validity, Reliability
