- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Learning procedural skills is one of the essential aspects of undergraduate medical education. However, learning procedural skills in clinical settings is less widely considered. This study aimed to explore the Iranian undergraduate medical students’ perception of learning procedural skills and its outcomes in three universities of medical sciences in Iran.
Methods: A descriptive exploratory qualitative methodology with an in-depth unstructured, face-to-face interview, and content analysis was used in this study. Sixteen students in clinical phases of general medical education programs from educational hospitals were selected using purposive sampling. According to the preferences of the participants, the interviews were conducted in medical schools or in hospitals.
Results: The students participating in this study included 7 females and 9 males (totally 16 people) with a mean age of 23.7 years old with a range of 21-27 years. The three main themes of this study were “the gap of transferring formal teaching from skill lab to clinical placement”, “learning self-leading procedural skills in clinical settings”, and “students’ dissatisfaction with patients’ vulnerability” with 8 subthemes which were extracted and explained based on the students’ perception.
Conclusion: Unsupervised and self-learning by medical students and weakness in controlling the learning process have undesirable results for patients and students.- انتشار مقاله: 09-06-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: A simple and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of nitrite in water and soil preparation samples has been developed. Determination of nitrite is based on diazotization of p-nitro aniline with nitrite and subsequent coupling with 4-amino-3-hydroxynaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid in hydrochloric acid. The factors affecting the reaction i.e. concentration of p-nitro aniline, concentration of 4-amino-3-hydroxynaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid and concentration of the hydrochloric acid solution were studied and optimized using central composite design. The analysis of the results of experimental design showed that for obtaining higher signals the values of the above factors should be as 2.0×10-4, 5.0×10-4 and 1.33 M, respectively. The reaction yields a product with an absorption maximum at 302 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the range 0.10-2.00 mgL-1 of nitrite. The molar absorptivity of the product was found to be 6.74×104. The method was applied successfully to the determination of nitrite in water and soil samples. Relative standard deviation of the method was below 2%.

- چکیده انگلیسی: A method was developed for removal, preconcentration and spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of methyl red based on SiO2-coated Fe3O4magnetic nanoparticles. The influence of pH, dosage of adsorbent and contact time on the adsorption of dye was explored by central composite design. The kinetic data were analyzed based on the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The Langmuir model was fitted well to data and the maximum monolayer capacity q max of 49.50 mg g−1 was calculated. The results showed that desorption efficiencies of higher than 99% can be achieved in a short contact time of 3 min and in one step elution using 2.0 mL of 0.1 mol L−1 NaOH. The magnetic nanoparticles were washed with deionized water and reused for two successive removal processes with removal efficiencies more than 90%. Then desorbed dye was determined spectrophotometrically. The calibration curve was linear in the range of 0.025–0.250 mg L−1 of dye with a correlation coefficient of 0.9922. The relative standard deviations obtained upon application of the method to the real samples were lower than 0.7%. A preconcentration factor of the method was 50.

- چکیده انگلیسی: It is several decades that the application of membrane processes for gas separation has become a great concern within industries. Among them, the polymeric membranes of different structures have played the most important role. Such application has been widely extended to gas separation and due to the necessity of both; prediction of the behavior of these processes and recognition of the effective parameters on membrane processes, in this research a mathematical model of mass transfer through polymeric asymmetric membranes is presented. Within the dense section of the membrane, a dual sorption model is applied, while for the porous section, the average effect of the four flow mechanisms; namely Knudsen, viscous, slip as well as surface flow are implemented. Basing on the experimental values of gas permeances through different membranes and by using a proper optimization method, the available membrane transport parameters were determined.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective- Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) has been proven to be a safe and effective technique in human. This study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility and safety of utilizing laparoscopic partial nephrectomy in dogs and to compare this technique with open routine partial nephrectomy for the first time in Iran.
Design- Experimental study.
Animals- Sixteen large mixed-breed female dogs, weighting 22±5 kg, 1-2 years age.
Procedures- All dogs were anesthetized and positioned for surgery on left kidney. Partial nephrectomy (PN) was performed through five portals in left flank in laparoscopic group and through midline incision in open group. After renal artery was recognized and clamped, the caudal pole of kidney was resected. Then the exposed renal parenchyma was sutured. Operative time, ischemia time, incision length, clinical findings, hematological parameters, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine and intra and post-operative complications were recorded for one month.
Results- Surgeries were performed successfully in both groups and visualization was excellent in laparoscopic group. Mean operative time was insignificantly longer in laparoscopic group. Mean ischemia time was evaluated more in laparoscopic group but total length of incisional scar was obviously longer in open cases. There was mild infection in one portal site of first group. Other parameters were assessed normal and there was no significant complication in both groups.
Conclusion and Clinical Relevance- This experience demonstrated that LPN is a safe and feasible procedure in dogs with acceptable outcomes and advantages comparing with open PN.

- چکیده انگلیسی: The individual effects of cadmium concentrations (0, 0.005, 0.05and 0.5 mg. L-1) on the growth
(cell number and chlorophyll content) and beta-carotene synthesis of two strains (Iranian and Australian) of
green algae D.salina have been studied for a duration of 36 days. The effects of these cadmium
concentrations on the amount of cell magnesium and calcium have also been evaluated. An increase in
cadmium concentration resulted in a significant reduction in the cell number and chlorophyll content of D.
salina. In comparison with control, in both strains, the increase of beta-carotene content of cells was observed
in the first few days of the experiment, moreover, the amount of magnesium and calcium in cells decreased.
The results indicated that the addition of 0.5 mg. L-1 of cadmium in the medium results in a 50 percent
reduction in cell number after 96h. The decrease in growth rate and the increase in beta-carotene content of
cells is probably due to the formation of free radicals and deficiency of essential elements such as magnesium

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The most common cause of preventable blindness in children is retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The most important risk factors for this disease are preterm delivery and low birth weight (LBW). This research was performed to evaluate the prevalence ofand risk factors for ROP in preterm neonates.
Methods: Our research was a cross-sectional descriptive and retrospective study conducted on preterm neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Mahdieh Hospital in Tehran, Iran, in 2015. All neonates with a gestational age of < 32 weeks and birth weight of < 1,500 g were enrolled. Demographic data and risk factors for ROP were evaluated. Statistical analysis was conducted by SPSS (version 20) with a 95% confidence interval and. P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Our study was conducted on 154 patients. Mean gestational age and birth weight of the newborns were 28.69±1.82 weeks (range: 23-32 weeks) and 1114.94±240.982 g (range: 550-1500 g). The ROP was detected in 76 (49.4%) patients, 55.26%, 34.2%, and 10.53% of whom had stages I, II, and III of ROP. Stages IV and V were not seen in our patients. The incidence of ROP was significantly affected by low gestational age and birth weight, delivery room resuscitation, prolonged oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation, and repeated packed cell transfusion.
Conclusion: Despite the improvement in the care of preterm infants in the NICUs, the prevalence rate of ROP was high. Therefore, it is critical to adopt better care for disease prevention, timely screening, and appropriate treatment programs for the neonates who are at the risk of this disease.- انتشار مقاله: 08-03-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: This study presents a robust and rigorous method based on intelligent models, namely radial basis function networks optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO-RBF), multilayer perceptron neural networks (MLP-NNs), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system optimized by particle swarm optimization methods (PSO-ANFIS), for predicting the equilibrium and kinetics of the adsorption of sulfur and nitrogen containing compounds from a liquid hydrocarbon model fuel on mesoporous materials. All the models were evaluated by the statistical and graphical methods. The predictions of the models were also compared with different kinetics and equilibrium models. The results showed that although all the models lead to accurate results, the PSO-ANFIS model represented the most reliable and dependable predictions with the correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.99992 and average absolute relative deviation (AARD) of 0.039%. The developed models are also able to predict the experimental data with better precision and reliability compared to literature models.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: It is still controversial that the stem cells isolated from human dental pulp meets the criteria for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The aim of the present study was to examine whether or not they are MSCs, or are distinct stem cells population residing in tooth pulp. Methods: Adherent fibroblastic cells in the culture of pulp tissue from human third molars were propagated through several successive subcultures. Passaged-3 cells with a tendency to differentiate into odontoblastic cells were used to examine the key properties of MSCs including typical tripotent differentiation potential into bone, cartilage and adipose cell lineages and the expression of typical surface antigens. Moreover, they were examined for growth capacity in culture. Results: Dental pulp stem cells successfully progressed towards differentiation among three skeletal cell lineages. More than 90% of the cell population exhibited the expression of surface antigens known to be found on mesenchymal lineages such as CD105, CD90, CD44, and CD73, while only less than 2% expressed endothelial-hematopoietic epitopes including CD56, CD11b, CD34, CD31, CD33, and CD45. The cells exhibited a relatively high proliferation capacity with population doubling time of about 21.9 hours. Conclusion: The dental pulp stem cells are of MSC population, and may be considered suitable for use in regenerative medicine, owing to their relatively rapid rate of in vitro propagation.
