- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction:
Long-standing chronic otitis media (COM) may lead to sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The present study aimed to evaluate the factors affecting the sensorineural component to counsel patients regarding the risk of SNHL at the event of untreated COM.
Material and Methods:
A time-bound cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at a tertiary care hospital. The study population included the study group comprising 137 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) and the control group which consisted of 137 individuals with the same age range and gender as the case study group. Moreover, the hearing was assessed using a pure tone audiogram and specialtests of hearing.
Results:
Based on the findings of the present study, the SNHL was found in 71.4% of CSOM cases with an ear discharge duration of more than 5 years. The SNHL occurred in 55.2% and 44.7% of the cases with pars flaccida and of pars tensa perforations, respectively. In the case of pars tensa perforation, greater perforation size resulted in a steady increase in the odds of developing SNHL. Patients with subtotal and total perforations were at higher risk of developing SNHL.
Conclusion:
Patients with longer duration of disease, squamous type of disease, and larger size of pars tensa perforation had greater susceptibility to develop SNHL. Therefore, eradication ofthedisease from the middle ear and early reconstruction of the hearing mechanism duringthe course of the disease result in reducing the burden of SNHL.- انتشار مقاله: 17-07-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective(s): This study was conducted to evaluate the cerebroprotective effect of methanolic leaf extract of Punica granatum (MePG) in Wistar rats.
Materials and Methods: The MePG was initially assessed for in vitro antioxidant activity, and later evaluated on LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell line assay. Finally, the MePG was evaluated against ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) induced brain injury in Wistar rats.
Results: In DPPH, FRAP and ORAC assays, the MePG has exhibited potent antioxidant activity. Further, the MePG has significantly inhibited the generation of nitrite, ROS and TNF-α in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell lines. Besides, global ischemia followed by reperfusion caused significant changes in the neurological and behavioral functions in I/R control animals compared to sham control. Additionally, in the I/R control group there was a substantial decrease in the catalase and superoxide dismutase activities; Likewise, reduced glutathione levels reduced and lipid peroxidation levels enhanced significantly. Also, pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and ICAM-I were increased and the levels of IL-10 was decreased significantly. Furthermore, the I/R insult caused increase in brain volume and cerebral infarct formation. Similarly, histopathology of the brain tissue revealed hallmarks like necrosis, leukocyte infiltration, cerebral edema and vascular congestion in I/R control. Notably, MePG (200 and 400 mg/kg) pretreatment for 7 days, has attenuated all the I/R-persuaded pathological changes compared to I/R control. In addition, the LC-MS/MS analysis showed presence of acteoside, apigenin, gallic acid, gossypin, pentagalloyl glucose, quercetin, and rutin as major ingredients in the MePG.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that the MePG possesses significant cerebroprotective activity.- انتشار مقاله: 26-12-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: In this study, we report an effective uric acid (UA) electrochemical biosensor using Cu-TiO2 electrode. UA is a biomedical compound that plays a vital role in human metabolism. The abnormal level of UA leads to several diseases. TiO2 and Cu-TiO2 with various concentrations were deposited on glass substrates by spray pyrolysis technique. The structural study shows by X-ray diffraction analysis shows that all the films are in anatase phase with tetragonal structure and confirm the incorporation of Cu ions into TiO2 lattice. The morphology and chemical composition of TiO2 and Cu-TiO2 were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). These studies reveal that the aggregation of particles occurs due to doping and confirm the presence of Cu. The optical analysis was studied by UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy, which indicates the band gap changes, shift in absorption peak and defects. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to analyse the performance of the Cu-TiO2 as the electrochemical biosensor. Cu-TiO2 electrochemical biosensor exhibits good sensitivity, linearity and high stability for the detection of UA.

- چکیده انگلیسی: The solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are facing serious problems due to unavoidable losses in their system, leads to more devation of output power from the input power level. This effect is known as a mismatch effect and is available in PV systems. Many losses are encountered in PV system and it is difficult to minimize such losses. In this paper, the influence of thermal effect on the solar PV system is considered and its influence on the performance of the operation, fill factor, open circuit voltage, and short circuit current, band gap level of various semiconductor materials, output power and efficiency are analyzed. The temperature effect of a solar PV cell, while connecting in a 36 cells in a module is analyzed for the various connection configurations like Simple Series configuration (SS), Series-Parallel configuration (SP), Total-Cross Tied configuration (TCT), Bridge-Linked configuration (BL), and HoneyComb configuration (HC) using MATLAB software. Increases the level of temperature for various connection configurations, correspondingly decreases their open circuit voltage, series resistance. Shunt resistance and current are may not fully affects due to temperature. Finally this problem creates a heating effect in the solar PV cell, so the life span of the photovoltaic panel is decreased gradually. While increases the temperature level soldering points are affected and cell encapsulation is affects. Solar cell materials are changed their performance of operation, while changes in the band gap with the effect of temperature.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective: Oral cancer presents as a devastating type of malignancy. It is predominant in populations with high
use of alcohol and various forms of tobacco as well as poor diets with low intake of fruits and vegetables. The present
study focused on the potential of Garcinone E to inhibit HSC-4 oral cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion.
Methods: MTT and colony forming assays were performed to study antiproliferative effects of Garcinone E. Hoechst
staining was used to determine levels of apoptosis, with cell invasion and scratch assays conducted for migration and
invasion characteristics. The levels of MMPs and cytokines were quantified in Garcinone E treated cells by ELISA.
Results: Garcinone E inhibited the proliferation and colony forming potential of HSC-4 cells. It also suppressed
migration and invasion with inhibition of MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression. Moreover, it elevated IL-2 and reduced
IL-6 expression in HSC-4 cells. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate for the first time that Garcinone E might inhibit
metastasis of an oral cancer cell line by blocking invasion, migration and MMP production.- انتشار مقاله: 21-09-1396
