- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Breast milk provides adequate protein to facilitate growth for term infants. Appropriate nutrition is necessary for the growth of preterm infants. Extremely-low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants require higher protein intakes to achieve adequate growth.
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of protein supplements on the physical growth of infants weighing less than 1,000 grams through the serial measurement of their anthropometric indices (weight, height, and head circumference) during admission at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Methods: This triple-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted on 64 infants weighing less than 1,000 grams, who were admitted to the NICU of Akbar Abadi Hospital in Tehran, Iran during 2015-2016. Data on the daily nutritional intake of the subjects were recorded until discharge from the hospital. Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 24.
Results: In total, 63 infants were enrolled in the study. Mean daily weight gain of the infants was 55.92±36.90 and 30.80±13.91 grams in the case and control groups, respectively (P=0.001). Mean weekly linear growth in the case and control groups was 0.77±0.67 and 0.76±0.29 centimeter, respectively (P=0.939). Mean weekly head circumference growth in the case and control groups was 0.51±0.10 and 0.34±0.16 centimeter, respectively (P<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the results, protein therapy in the premature, extremely-low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants could improve the rate of weight gain and head circumference growth. Given the importance of weight gain in premature ELBW infants, it is recommended that protein therapy be employed in these newborns. Various studies have denoted the few side-effects of protein therapy, which indicates the safety of this method to resolve the lack of weight gain in these infants.- انتشار مقاله: 22-06-1397

- چکیده:
- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Preterm birth occurs in a large number of pregnancies, and its incidence has been reported to be on the rise. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in the premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). The present study aimed to determine the predictive factors, clinical courses, and outcomes of AKI in the neonates with the clinical and radiological manifestations of RDS.
Methods: Medical records of 84 premature neonates with RDS were evaluated in two groups of case (with AKI) (n=34) and control (without AKI) (n=50). Diagnosis of AKI was based on the increased level of serum creatinine (>1.5 mg/dL) after the third day of birth or increasing serum creatinine level. In addition, blood pressure and laboratory findings, including complete blood count, serum electrolytes, and urine volume, were compared between the two groups.
Results: Mean age of the infants with AKI was 5.41±3.29 days, and the majority of the patients had nonoliguric renal failure. Among the samples, 23.5% died, and 76.5% were discharged without renal impairment. Birth weight, systolic blood pressure, blood urea nitrogen, calcium, and pH on admission had significant correlations with the presence of AKI. Moreover, birth weight was observed to be a relatively accurate predictive factor for AKI (AUC=0.08; 95% CI=0.68-0.91), with 73.5% sensitivity and 80% specificity.
Conclusion: According to the results, AKI was more common in the low-birth-weight infants with severe RDS compared to the other subjects- انتشار مقاله: 23-12-1396

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background and aim: Considering the results of studies and the potential of using favipiravir treatment of COVID-19, reviewing the results of clinical trial studies and summarizing the results are of great importance. It may be possible to use favipiravir extensively in the future. Therefore, the purpose of the present systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the improvement rates of favipiravir treatment in patients with COVID-19.
Materials and methods: From the electronic databases, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, ISI have been used to perform systematic literature between 2010 and 2020. Therefore, a software program (Endnote X8) has been utilized for managing electronic titles. Searches were performed with mesh terms. The odds ratio between the two groups (Favipiravir and control) with a 95% confidence interval was calculated. Random effects were used to deal with potential heterogeneity, and I2 showed heterogeneity. The Meta-analysis and forest plots have been evaluated using a software program available in the market (i.e., Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Stata V16).
Results: According to the research design, 186 potentially important research abstracts and titles have been discovered in our electronic searches. Finally, two papers remained in agreement with our inclusion criteria required. Statistically, a significant difference observed between improvement rates of the Favipiravir group and control group (p=0.01).
Conclusion: Positive effect and improvement rates of favipiravir VS control groups observed to treat patients with COVID-19.- انتشار مقاله: 15-02-1399

- چکیده انگلیسی: Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) prostate cancer associated transcript 1 (PCAT-1) has been identified as a potential
biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of various cancers. We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis
to evaluate the role of dysregulation as well as the biological and clinical significance of lnc-PCAT-1 for predicting the
malignancy status in several cancers. Two independent reviewers conducted an extensive search in electronic databases
of Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed until the December of 2017. Five articles investigating the
clinical significance of lncRNA PCAT-1, including 996 patients, were analyzed. Our results revealed that the increased
PCAT-1 expression was related to overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.9, 95%CI: 1.13-3.18, P=0.015). Also, pooled results
of the diagnostic data analysis demonstrated that PCAT-1 has a sensitivity of 0.59 and specificity of 0.66 for cancer
diagnosis. Moreover, pooled area under curve was 0.62 (95% CI: 058–0.69). This meta-analysis revealed that lncRNA
PCAT-1 could be served as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in various solid tumors.- انتشار مقاله: 13-12-1396
