- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Oxidative stress and free radicals play a crucial role in muscle fatigue. Pistacia vera (P. vera) contains many
antioxidant substances such as coenzyme Q-10, vitamin E and beta-carotene. The current study has been designed to evaluate
the effects of P. vera seeds (pistachios) on skeletal muscle fatigue in male Wistar rats.
Materials and methods: 50 Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups, including the normal, vehicle and
treated groups of pistachio extracts (10, 100, and 1000 mg/kg). Muscle fatigue was induced by treadmills. Animals would run
at the speed of 20 m/min on a treadmill until they showed fatigue signs. This protocol was repeated for 10 days. The hydroalcoholic extracts of pistachios were gavaged 30 minutes before the induction of muscle fatigue every day. On the 11th day, rats
were sacrificed and biochemical parameters such as creatine phospho-kinase (CPK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and aspartate
aminotransferase (AST) levels were measured in the plasma.
Results: The different doses of the pistachio extract led to an increase in the fatigue time on days 2 (100 mg/kg) (p<0.05), 4
(10 and 100 mg/kg) (all p<0.05), 5 (10 and 1000 mg/kg) (all p<0.05), 7 (10 and 1000 mg/kg) (all p<0.05) and 9 (100 mg/kg)
(p<0.05). The induction of muscle fatigue led to an increase in the serum activity of CPK, LDH and AST (all p<0.01). The
pistachio extract (10 and 100 mg/kg) decreased the serum activities of LDH and AST (all p<0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it was concluded that pistachios could decrease skeletal muscle fatigue in male Wistar rats.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: The results of studies on the effects of age on sperm parameters are controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of age and semen parameters.
Methods: In this study 278 men (32.3±6.5 years, range 19 to 65 years) referred to a private medical laboratory to evaluate couple infertility were included from April 2016 to March 2017. Cases with azospermia were excluded from the current study. In some cases, the cause of the couple infertility was female factor, which is not addressed in this report. Semen samples were collected using standard methods. We analyzed semen parameters using computer-assisted sperm analysis.
Results: All semen parameters were deteriorating with increasing age; however, only the correlation of age with sperm motility was statistically significant. This correlation showed a quadratic model with an increasing trend up to a peak at 32 years and then decreasing (R2=0.024, P=0.03). We divided cases into two age groups and repeated the analysis separately for patients younger than 31 years (median age of our population) or patients older than 31 years. We found that the semen parameters including count, volume, total motility and vitality showed a negative correlation with age in older patients, however, this correlation was significant only for the total motility (P=0.02).
Conclusion: Age has an insignificant impact on sperm count, whereas, Sperm motility showed an increasing trend up to a peak at 32 years and then decreasing significantly.- انتشار مقاله: 13-11-1397

- چکیده انگلیسی: Oil palm propagation techniques are juvenile pot plants derived from germinated seeds and tissue culture, because it doesn’t produce sucker. In the nursery stage, monitoring the conditions of irrigation and nutrition are important to ensure phenotypic quality. During the nursery stage, optimal fertilization in development of more vigorous and productive plants. This research was carried out to increase fertilizer use efficiency and its impact on vegetative growth of juvenile oil palm plants in greenhouse based Factorial experiment according completely randomized design with three replications at greenhouse of date palm and tropical fruit research institute in Ahvaz during 2011-2013. Treatments included five different fertilization methods (Without fertilization or control, soil application, fertigation, foliar spray and soil application add foliar spray on juvenile pot plants derived from germinated oil palm seeds) and eight genotypes. The results showed that different methods of fertilization were significantly different in vegetative growth characteristics. Also, different cultivars were significantly different in all vegetative traits except chlorophyll content. Interactions between treatments were significant in the growth characteristics of stem and number of leaves (P≤0.05). Fertigation with mean seedling height, stem height, stem diameter, leaf length and width, equivalent to 138.9, 26.0, 7.3, 126.5 and 40.6 cm, respectively and the average number of leaves and leaflets of 11.9 and 44.6 numbers per plant respectively and chlorophyll content of 55.3 was superior fertilization method comparing to other methods.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study performed in psychology and ENT department of Moradi Hospital of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences in 2008 (Kerman, Iran). Nasopharyngeal cultures were taken from 50 opium smokers before and 2 to 3 months after cessation of opium smoking. Potential pathogens were identified. Findings: Eight potential pathogens were isolated from nasopharyngeal cultures obtained from 43 individuals before opium smoking cessation, and 4 were recovered from 33 individuals after cessation (P < 0.0001). Streptococcus pneumonia, staphylococcus saprofiticus, streptococos α hemolytic, and staphylococcus aureus in 2nd culture were not seen. The most sensitivity to antibiotics was related to ceftriaxone (84%), ciprofloxacin (74%) and cloxacillin (72%); the most resistance was to amoxicillin (26%) and the least resistance was to chloramphenicol. Conclusion: In our study, some potential pathogens decreased or even disapeared after opium cessation. Our patients have not been advised to change their number of cigarettes. We have used methadone pill for substitution of opium. It seems that opium smoking affects nasopharyngeal flora. Keyword: Opium, Nasaopharynx, Microbial flora
