- چکیده انگلیسی: Quinones are a class of compounds which have widespread importance in chemistry, biology and medicine. Because of their appropriate performance in electron transferring rate, quinones are among the most applicable mediators in biosensors. Recently, the effects of different non-metal substitutions on redox potential of quinone have been investigated to design suitable mediators for different electrochemical measurements. In the present study, the effect of coinage transition metal (TM) substitutions (Cu, Ag, Au) alone or together with other functional group substitutions such as -OH, -Cl, -CH3, -NO2 and -CO2H on lowering or raising the redox potential of quinone was investigated. The range of calculated redox potential was from 0.193 to 1.056 volts in comparison with unsubstituted benzoquinone which is 0.7 volts. We found that coinage TMs, similar to electron donating groups (EDGs), cause lowering effect on redox potential of quinones. Our findings reveal that the copper and hydroxyl groups have the most decreasing effect on redox potential. Calculations were performed through density functional theory with B3LYP xc-functional and mixed basis set 6-31+G** + LANL2DZ.

- چکیده انگلیسی: In the present study, the interactions of three different lithium species Li+, Li3+ and CH3Li with several different sites of the most stable tautomers of DNA nucleo-bases are presented. This investigation is based on the results of thermochemical properties, Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM) and Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis, obtained at B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. The calculated results showed that guanine and cytosine have more tendencies for interaction with lithium in all above three lithium species. Also, it was shown that for each tautomer of the same nucleobase, coordination mode of lithium highly affects the value of Metal Ion Affinity (MIA). Bidentate base has more lithium affinity and the carbonyl oxygen is generally preferred over amino nitrogen. Furthermore, the analysis revealed the electrostatic nature of interactions. Li+-DNA-Base has the most MIA value and CH3Li-DNA-Base has the least one.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objective: The aim of present study was evaluation and comparison of the white blood cell, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C reactive protein (CRP) in febrile children with or without convulsion.
Methods: Three hundred sixty eight febrile children aged 6-60 months with or without convulsion were studied. Demographic, white blood cell (WBC), ESR and CRP were compared and analyzed.
Results: There was 368 children (184 patients with febrile convulsion as case group and 184 febrile patients without convulsion as control group), with the average age of 26.6±14.4 months and 17.71±15.4 months respectively (p=0.001). In case group 59.78% and in control group 43.48% were male (p=0.002). There was no significant difference between groups regarding WBC, ESR and CRP. There was significant relationship between leukocytosis and convulsion in patients with longer than 15 minutes convulsion (p=0.03). There was not any significant relationship between febrile convulsion patients according to type, duration and frequency of convulsion in ESR and CRP.
Conclusion: Leukocytosis and elevated ESR and CRP in patients with febrile convulsion can represent underlying etiology of the fever and it may not be due to convulsion itself. But in longer than 15 minutes convulsion, it can lead to leukocytosis itself.- انتشار مقاله: 28-02-1399

- چکیده انگلیسی: Cystic fibrosis-associated liver disease (CFLD) is an important aspect of cystic fibrosis (CF), which manifests with various signs and symptoms. Lack of specific examinations for CFLD have made the diagnostic process of the disease time-consuming, and the disease is often identified after severe progress. Finding the associations between the outcomes of various clinical, biochemical, and sonography examinations could help specialists identify the disease in a timely manner. This review study aimed to determine the correlations between the outcomes of various diagnostic approaches based on the current literature. According to the literature, some studies have reported correlations between various diagnostic approaches, while other studies have reported no associations in this regard. This discrepancy could be due to the various manifestations associated with CF.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Cystic fibrosis is one of the most common autosomal recessive diseases that affects sweat glands and mucosa. CF is a hereditary disease with annual incidence of about 2500 new cases in United Kingdom. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 levels decrease in CF. The aim of this study was to assess the role of growth peptides in patients with CF.
Method: We searched PubMed, Google scholar, IranMedex, and Scientific Information Database (SID) in September 2012 to April 2014. We included clinical studies with available abstracts and full texts that were in English or Persian languages. Manual searching was conducted within the reference lists of articles. Two reviewers independently applied eligibility criteria, assessed quality, and extracted data.
Result: The earliest study was published in 1997 and the most recent one was in 2014. Study participants were adults in 3 studies (20%) and 12 studies (80%) were conducted in children. Patients with CF have lower levels of IGF-1 and there is a significant correlation between IGF-1 levels and growth index in patients with CF.

- چکیده انگلیسی: Introduction: Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is known as a chronic liver disease associated with severe pulmonary deoxygenation due to intrapulmonary vascular vasodilation. Although liver transplantation is accepted as a main treatment of HPS, identifying effective drugs for recovery of HPS can be effective in postponing the transplantation and decreasing the mortality rate of patients before the transplantation. In this study we briefly reviewed the pathogenesis of HPS and also systematically reviewed the current pharmacological treatment of HPS.
Method: Pubmed, Scopus, and Google scholar were searched for the relevant English language clinical and experimental articles about the medications used in the treatment of HPS.
Results: A total of 38 articles were included in this study which mostly resulted in decreasing NOS expression, NO production, endothelin-1 activation, intrapulmonary angiogenesis and increasing oxygenation.
Conclusion: Various drugs have been proposed in treatment of HPS but more large controlled trial studies, is necessary to determine the exact efficacy of each drugs for HPS recovery.- انتشار مقاله: 16-11-1392
