- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Considering the assumptions of cognitive load theory and using its reduction and optimization strategies in the design and development of instructional content is one of the main requirements for achieving effective learning. This study examined the effectiveness of instructional multimedia based on reducing the extraneous cognitive load in English language learning among Nursing students.
Methods: In this study, pretest-posttest design with control group was used. The population included all the undergraduate students of Nursing at Alborz University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 2015-2016. Of these, 36 students were selected through a convenience sampling procedure and were randomly assigned to either of two groups in the study: control (n=17) and experimental (n=19). The instruments included instructional multimedia lessons and English grammar tests (pretest and posttest). For data analyses, an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was applied.
Results: The results showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on the posttest. This indicated that the instructional multimedia designed based on the reduction of extraneous cognitive load enhanced the learning rate of experimental group when compared to that of the control group.
Conclusions: Using instructional multimedia based on the reduction of extraneous cognitive load helps improve learning by lowering the extraneous cognitive load learners experience during the process of learning.- انتشار مقاله: 03-03-1395

- چکیده انگلیسی: Background: Studies have shown that there is a gap between theory and practice in the use of learning analytics in educational settings. Some researchers attribute this gap to not taking learning theories into consideration in the use of learning analytics in educational contexts. This study was conducted to address the role of learning theory in applying learning analytics in educational contexts. Methods: This is a qualitative study and the study design is content analysis. Thematic analysis was used as the research method. Data for this study was collected through an interview with 14 experts in the fields of learning analytics and learning theory who were selected purposefully. Theoretical saturation method was used to determine the sample size. Content analysis techniques were used to analyze data and content validity index (CVI) and Cohen’s kappa coefficient were performed to measure the validity and reliability of the findings. Results: Data analysis was performed to identify three main roles for learning theory in learning analytics including underpinning role, guiding role, and sense-making role. Conclusion: The results suggest that first, learning theory should underlie learning analytics (where to begin). Second, application of learning analytics in educational settings should be guided by learning theory (what and how to do), and third, learning analytics’ reports should be interpreted based on the learning theory implications for education (answer to question why).

- چکیده انگلیسی: Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) may now be the second most common cancer in the world. The aim of this
study was to determine whether clusters of high and low risk of CRC might exist at the neighborhood level in Tehran
city. Methods: In this study, new cases of CRC provided from Cancer Registry Data of the Management Center of
Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran in the period from March 2008 to March 2011 were analyzed. Raw
standardized incidence rates (SIRs) were calculated for CRC in each neighborhood, along with ratios of observed to
expected cases. The York and Mollie (BYM) spatial model was used for smoothing of the estimated raw SIRs. To
discover clusters of high and low CRC incidence a purely spatial scan statistic was applied. Results: A total of 2,815
new cases of CRC were identified and after removal of duplicate cases, 2,491 were geocoded to neighborhoods. The
locations with higher than expected incidence of CRC were northern and central districts of Tehran city. An observed
to expected ratio of 2.57 (p<0.001) was found for districts of 2, 6 and 11, whereas, the lowest ratio of 0.23 (p<0.001)
was apparent for northeast and south areas of the city, including district 4. Conclusions: This study showed that there
is a significant spatial variation in patterns of incidence of CRC at the neighborhood level in Tehran city. Identification
of such spatial patterns and assessment of underlying risk factors can provide valuable information for policymakers
